A šepmistr (pl. šepmistři) is a Czech word referring to a type of civic office. The word šepmistr is not used in English, so this article refers only to the office in the Czech Republic. The closest English term is alderman. This Czech term is related to the terms used in other European languages, including Schöffe (pl. Schöffen) in German, schepen (pl. schepenen) in Dutch, échevin (pl. échevins) in French (in Belgium and Luxembourg), and scabino (pl. scabini) in Italian.
