The .22-270 is a wildcat cartridge, made by combining
components of different calibers. In this case a .270 parent case
has its open mouth shaped down to accept a smaller .22 bullet,
allowing for a much larger powder charge. This propels the smaller,
lighter bullet at significantly greater velocities, meaning more
accuracy at longer ranges- a fine choice for varmint
shooting.
