Shoulder Sleeve Insignia of the second 10th Division

There have been a number of 10th Divisions in the history of the United States Army.

  • 10th Division - A National Guard division established in early 1917 consisting of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. By the end of that same year, the 10th Division became the 31st Division (later 31st Infantry Division).
  • 10th Division (World War I) - Organized in 1918 as a regular army and national army division for World War I, the 10th Division did not go overseas and demobilized in February of 1919 at Camp Funston, Kansas.
  • 10th Infantry Division - The 10th Mountain Division was reactivated in 1947 as the 10th Infantry Division. It served as a training division until 1954, when it was reorganized as a combat division. In 1957, the 2nd Infantry Division replaced the 10th Infantry Division at Fort Benning, Georgia, and the 10th Infantry Division was inactivated.
