16 and Pregnant is an MTV reality series produced by Morgan J. Freeman, and was first broadcast on June 11, 2009. It follows the stories of pregnant teenage girls in high school dealing with the hardships of teenage pregnancy. Each episode features a different teenage girl, with the episode typically beginning when she is 6-8 months into her pregnancy. The episode typically ends when the baby is a few months old. The series is produced in a documentary format, with an animation of an elaborate cartoon depiction on notebook paper of highlights during each episode preceding the commercial breaks.

Maci Bookout is a popular teenager from Ooltewah, Tennessee just outside of Chattanooga. She is an over-achiever who gets good grades,is a cheerleader, dancer, volleyball and softball player, and rides dirtbikes. Her fiancé Ryan Edwards romantically pursued her during her sophomore year. Maci gives birth to a son, Bentley Cadence Edwards, on October 27, 2008. She goes to an accelerated high school so she can graduate early. Following her high school graduation, Maci enrolls in the local community college to start classes and has no help from Ryan in raising Bentley. She has to rely on her mother to help, but when she decides that is not fair to her mother, she quits the dance team to spend more time with Bentley. Having a child is too much responsibility for Ryan, and he spends more time away from Maci and Bentley in order to cope. This causes Maci to call off the engagement and the pair to almost break up. 
102 "Farrah" June 18, 2009 (2009-06-18)
Farrah Abraham is a popular cheerleader from Council Bluffs, Iowa juggling school, work and cheer practice, whose life becomes much more complicated when she finds out she is pregnant. At first, Farrah only tells her two best friends: Zabrina and Tyler, who are on the cheerleading squad with her. Tyler remains loyal to Farrah while Zabrina turns on her and begins spreading rumors. As a result of these rumors, Farrah decides to continue high school online. Farrah's ex-boyfriend and the father of the baby begins to harass Farrah after he finds out she is pregnant, forcing her to change her phone number. On February 23, 2009, Farrah gives birth to a daughter she names Sophia Laurent. After Sophia's birth, without a car and struggling with her difficult relationship with her mother, Farrah turns to her sister Ashley for advice and makes peace with her overly controlling mother, who she knows is only doing what she thinks is right.

Amber Portwood is a rebel from Anderson, Indiana who never thought she'd have children. Now she and her boyfriend of 3 years, Gary Shirley, are trying to make it work while she discovers she is pregnant and has a daughter, Leah Leann Shirley on November 12, 2008. 
104 "Ebony" July 2, 2009 (2009-07-02)
Ebony Jackson is a 17-year-old high school senior from Colorado Springs, Colorado who dreams of becoming a member of the US Air Force. Ebony's plans to join the military and marry her fiancé Josh Rendon are halted when she discovers she's pregnant. With a baby on the way, both Ebony and Josh are struggling to graduate high school and pursue their shared dream of joining the military. As Josh begins to skip school and it becomes clear he may not graduate at all, Ebony and Josh's parents become increasingly upset. Meanwhile, the couple visit an Air Force recruitment office and are told that because of the child, only one of them will be allowed to join. The two attend senior prom and argue with Josh's parents over issues of stress, living situations and not preventing Ebony's pregnancy. Ebony gives birth to a girl, Jocelyn Jade, on April 29, 2009. Shortly after Jocelyn's birth, Ebony struggles to get herself through school, to get the help and support she needs from Josh, and to prepare for his upcoming departure to the Air Force, while Josh works to find a job to support his family. In Life After Labor, Josh and Ebony share they got married. 
105 "Whitney" July 9, 2009 (2009-07-09)
Whitney Purvis is a high school junior from Rome, Georgia. She is living with her boyfriend Weston Gosa, her mother Michelle Lynne, her mother's boyfriend Scott, and her grandmother, all in her grandmother's small house. They also have a dog they call Chumpy. Whitney's mother is also pregnant. Before either one of them gives birth, Whitney's grandmother, whom they call MeeMaw, informs her that their house will be sold by the landlord. While they are waiting for the house to be sold, Whitney's mother Michelle gives birth to a son named Taccoa. At Whitney's last doctor's appointment, the doctor decides that the baby should be born early due to complications. On April 2, 2009, after her labor is induced, Whitney gives birth via Caesarean section to a baby boy she names after his father, Weston Owen Gosa. After Weston's birth, the house becomes too small for all the people in it and Whitney and Weston decide to move in with Weston's parents. Before they move out, they bake a cake for MeeMaw as a way of expressing their gratitude. Later, they discover that Weston Jr. has alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency, a genetic disorder that affects the liver and lungs. 
106 "Catelynn" July 16, 2009 (2009-07-16)
Catelynn Lowell is a junior in high school, living in Algonac, Michigan. She and her boyfriend of 3 years, Tyler Baltierra, discover that she is pregnant. Neither of them feel that their living conditions are suitable for a new child, so they decide to look into adoption, going against their parents' wishes. They settle on a couple, Brandon and Teresa, and bond with them quickly. On May 18, 2009, Catelynn gives birth to a baby girl, who is named Carolynn Elizabeth (Carly for short) by her adoptive parents. Although not initially wanting to meet the baby, Tyler and Catelynn decide that they would like to see Carly before her adoptive parents do. After meeting their daughter, Brandon and Teresa promise to keep in touch with Catelynn and Tyler throughout the years of Carly's life. When it is time to sign the adoption papers, Catelynn's mother April refuses, forcing the official handover to take place off hospital grounds. Catelynn and Tyler say that the adoption was the hardest thing they had ever had to do, but the result has brought them closer together, and they know they made the right decision for Carly.

Season 2

Season 2 premiered on February 16, 2010 at 10 PM EST. This season features ten pregnant teenagers, including one giving birth to twins and another whose child has health problems.

Jenelle Evans is an incoming high school senior who lives in Oak Island, North Carolina. A party girl, Jenelle lives with her mother, Barbara, and her mother's boyfriend Mike. She and her boyfriend Andrew discover she is pregnant. Before the baby is born, Andrew suddenly takes off and does not support Jenelle through her pregnancy. On August 6, 2009, Jenelle gives birth to a baby boy named Jace Vahn Evans weighing 6lbs 4oz. She finally calls it quits with Andrew when he goes to jail for a week for a DUI charge. Even after giving birth, Jenelle continues to go out and party, leaving Barbara to take care of Jace. They argue frequently over Jenelle's behavior. At the end of the episode, Jenelle finally agrees to spend more time with her son, but asks for her mother's continued help as she does not feel she is capable of caring for him on her own. 
202 "Nikkole" February 23, 2010 (2010-02-23)
Nikkole Paulun is a popular cheerleader and incoming high school junior who lives in Monroe, Michigan, with her mother and brother. She learns she is pregnant over the summer. Nikkole's boyfriend Josh breaks up with her when she tells him about her pregnancy. Later, they reconcile, only for him to go back to his immature, disrespectful ways. The couple's fights climax during Nikkole's labor, when her mother as well as his argue over his disrespect toward all three of them and his immature behavior. On November 5, 2009, Nikkole gives birth to a baby boy named Lyle Thomas Drummonds weighing 8lbs 11oz. When Nikkole discovers that Josh has been seeing his ex-girlfriend behind her back and expects her not to be upset by this, she chooses to break up with him. Nikkole returns to school and gets help from Josh's mother to take care of Lyle during the school day because Josh's mom works a night shift. 
203 "Valerie" March 2, 2010 (2010-03-02)
Valerie Fairman is an incoming high school sophomore who lives in a suburb of Oxford, Pennsylvania. Following some behavioral difficulties at school, her parents have decided to homeschool her. She and her boyfriend Matt learn she is pregnant. He breaks up with her and says he does not want any contact with her unless it is about the baby. After Valerie experiences some Braxton Hicks, Matt moves to Wilmington, Delaware and Valerie talks to her parents about returning to regular school. They reject this idea on the grounds that homeschooling will permit her to spend more time with her child and keep her focused. On September 14, 2009, Valerie gives birth to a baby girl named Nevaeh Marie weighing 7lbs 15oz. After Nevaeh's birth, it is discovered that the baby may have Meconium aspiration syndrome, but after a short hospital stay she turns out fine. On a home visit, Matt displays interest in Nevaeh and demonstrates that he has been learning about how to care for babies. He and Valerie discuss their relationship. Valerie knows motherhood will be hard on her, but that it is getting easier. 
204 "Chelsea" March 9, 2010 (2010-03-09)
Chelsea Houska is a high school senior from Vermillion, South Dakota and is pregnant by her boyfriend Adam Lind. Adam does not want a baby at first, but according to Chelsea's narration, has warmed to the idea. Despite this, Adam neglects Chelsea, who is having a difficult pregnancy involving Braxton Hicks contractions. On Chelsea's first day of senior year, she goes into labor 5 weeks early and gives birth to a daughter, Aubree Skye. Aubree is diagnosed with jaundice, a common condition in premature babies, and has to stay in the hospital for a few days. Apart from asking Chelsea to put his last name on the birth certificate, Adam seems uninterested in Aubree and becomes increasingly distant from Chelsea, characterizing her behavior as "annoying" and "nagging." Eventually, Adam sends Chelsea an abusive text message that is degrading toward both Chelsea and Aubree. As a result, Chelsea makes the decision to change Aubree's last name from Lind to Houska to reflect her own. She says she is going to do what is best for her and her daughter. 
205 "Lori" March 16, 2010 (2010-03-16)
Lori Wickelhaus is a teenager from Fort Thomas, Kentucky who is considering adoption for her son Aidan, but does not want her son to go through the same things she went through, being adopted herself. Cory, her ex-boyfriend and her baby's father tries to get Lori to move in with him and his roommate so they can raise their son Aidan together saying "he doesn't want someone else raising his son". Throughout the whole episode, Lori's parents force adoption on her. Lori and Cory still want to keep Aidan, and Lori's parents take the job upon themselves to call Cory and ask him what he wants. He feels pressured to go along with adoption. Lori isn't totally bought on the idea, and her friend Alexa even wants to throw her a baby shower, which her mother won't allow, because she believes it means Lori will keep the baby. Lori and her mother met with a couple, Brian and Jen, who already had an adopted son by one of Lori's friends. At the last minute, the couple turned Lori away, because it took so long for her to decide on adoption, and they didn't feel that they had time to prepare for a newborn. Lori and her parents then meet with another couple and the decision is made for them to adopt the baby and they decided on the name Aidan. Lori delivers Aidan, and when he is 2 days old, they had an "Adoption Ceremony' where Lori hands over the baby to the adopted parents and she leaves the hospital alone.

Teen Mom

MTV launched a spin-off series titled Teen Mom, which debuted on December 8, 2009. The first season continues the stories of Farrah, Maci, Catelynn and Amber, this time as they go through their first year of being teen moms.
