The following are the association football events of the year 1871 throughout the world.


  • February 25 – England vs. Scotland 1-1 at Kennington Oval.
  • July 20 – At a meeting in London, Charles William Alcock and The Football Association decide to hold a challenge cup competition the next year. The FA Cup is born with 15 entries, and it remains the oldest cup tournament playing today.
  • November 18 – England beat Scotland 2-1 in London.
