1970


1970 began a decade full of hair, leisure suits, and disco. It kicked off with George C. Scott who really believed that he was Patton himself. People took the bus to go on trips after seeing Airport for the first time. Finally, Ali McGraw and Ryan O'Neal made the ultimate love movie. Ever since '70, men always rushed home from work to catch Monday Night Football, which took the country by storm. The AMC Gremlin was born while kids were busy playing Weebles. Speaking of which, '70 had plenty in store for children. How about every little kids' favorite street with muppets? That's right Sesame Street. There was also Mr. Rogers who ran his neighboorhood of having nothing but make-believe. In the music department, The Carpenters soothed us with their softness of their music while The Jackson 5 dominated 1970 by teaching us our ABC's. Freda Payne was happy to be alone and Norman Greenbaum was feeling the Spirit In The Sky. Meanwhile, the world's biggest band made the whole country cry by breaking up. Finally, Richard Nixon had a little unexpected meeting with The King.

1971


Three words made '71 a great year, Three Dog Night. That year they were spreading joy all over the world with Jeremiah the bullfrog. Meanwhile, Marvin Gaye wanted to know What's Going On with the world. Carole King moved the Earth with her album Tapestry. Speaking of Earth, the very first Earth Day began this year. The most notable music act of the year was Led Zepplin who found a Stairway to Heaven. In the movie scene, Billy Jack corrected a small town by using physical force while Dirty Harry cleaned up San Franciso by shooting everybody. Plus, Gene Hackman chased a killer down in his car and almost ran over everybody. Meanwhile, a Fiddler On The Roof said a musical prayer that he wishes to be rich. Brian's Song marked the first and probably only time that we seen football players crying in a room together. All in the Family changed dinner conversations across America while Soul Train made people who can't dance try their best to do so. Finally, Willy Wonka made every little kids' mouths water for two hours.

1972


1972 was a huge year in sports. First there was the Summer Olympics in Munich which Mark Spitz swam his way into a record-breaking 7 gold medals. The Oakland A's began their three-year domination in baseball winning three consecutive World Series Championships. The Miami Dolphins showed us all what perfection is. Most notably, Bobby Fischer gave the checkmate slap in the face to the USSR. Maude was a female dominated show while Paul Lynde was a father and a mother to his kids. Josie and the Pussycats went into outer space and the Kung Fu craze went across the country. Feminism was at its peak with Helen Reddy's song I Am Woman. Plus, we were introduced to Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids. The music in '72 was sparkly, glitzy, and glittery, thanks to Gary Glitter who inspired sports stadiums with Rock and Roll Part 2. David Bowie had an alter ego named Ziggy Stardust an androgynous alien. He probably should of starred in Cabaret. Billy Paul made infidelity sound real beautiful while Alice Cooper let us know that school is finally out. Plus, Michael Jackson was singing to his first love, A RAT!!!!. Memorable movies in '72, especially Shelley Winters swimming in the water in an overturned boat while Superfly showed us how tough it is to straighten your life after a life of crime. Then there was The Godfather that sent shockwaves through the whole world.

1973


'73 gave us Cher dressed up as an indian. Gladys Knight took the Midnight Train to Georgia but when she got there, all the lights went out, according to Vicki Lawrence. Plus, Kool and the Gang were dancing in the jungle. More importantly, Pink Floyd stayed on the charts for over 700 weeks with Dark Side of the Moon. Finally, Elvis Presley decided to make a pit stop in Hawaii for a concert. Billie Jean King humiliated Bobby Riggs on the tennis court. Secretariat was the horse everybody placed their bets on in '73. Kojak was solving crimes while licking lollipops. Children got educated by watching Schoolhouse Rock. In the movie scene, American Graffiti showed teenagers partying hard before college. A cowboy/robot was wreaking havoc while Wilbur and Charlotte showed us that a pig and a spider can be a good couple. Roger Moore made his debut as James Bond in Live and Let Die. Tatum O'Neal, then 9 years old, was smoking cigarettes, and that got her the title as '73's Best Supporting Actress. Most notably, Linda Blair scared every atheist in the country to going to church.

1974


1974 was a "dynamite" year which Good Times showed that a struggling family can live in peace. Jack Albertson got underneath Freddie Prinze's skin. Mikhail Baryshnikov decided to move to the USA. Kids spent 24 hours day playing Connect Four while preteen girls got the String Bikini for Christmas. Streaking became the year's top fad and Patty Hearst was kiddnapped. Michael Landon loved the old west. Hong Kong Phooey prentended he knew karate to beat up the evil guys. Speaking of dogs, Benji found his first crush and boy was it fun to watch. Meanwhile, Earthquake shook up every theatre while Steve McQueen and Paul Newman put out a burning hotel. Charles Bronson went around the city shooting everybody. Ellen Burstyn worked hard to provide for her son. Jack Nicholson invaded Chinatown. More importantly, '74 was the year of Mel Brooks with Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. Elton John ruled '74 with Bennie and the Jets. Lynyrd Skynyrd gave the state of Alabama its own anthem. All of the women couldn't get enough of Barry White. Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's home run record while Muhammad Ali punches out George Foreman in Africa. Finally, we were all introduced to The Fonz.

1975


Disco began taking over the world this year. Starting with The Hustle, which was an international dance craze. Having fun was the way KC and the Sunshine Band liked it uh huh uh huh. Earth Wind and Fire were the shining stars of 1975. Out of the disco scene, Captain and Tennille proved that love will keep them together even though the wife controls the husband. Patti LaBelle was dressed in a space suit and sang in French. Joe Cocker really believed that beauty is only skin deep. Finally, Morris Albert truly showed his Feelings while Glen Campbell was a Rhinestone Cowboy. Gabe Kaplan was surrounded by the sweathogs while Barretta's only friend was a bird. SNL first aired in 1975 and it is still giving us plenty of laughs. The AMC Pacer was introduced. More importantly, Gerald Ford almost got shot twice!!!. Mood Rings were all rage while some "genius" decided that people should have rocks for pets. In the movie department, 1975 gave us Jack Nicholson in a mental hospital. Warren Beatty was shampooing everyone's hair while Al Pacino showed his feminine side in Dog Day Afternoon. The Rocky Horror Picture Show had everybody in every theatre singing along. Monty Python was looking for a holy grail while everybody was looking for Jimmy Hoffa. Finally, Jaws was chomping away at the box office and probably closed down every beach for the summer.

1976


HAPPY 200th BIRTHDAY AMERICA! July 4, 1976, there was enough patriotism to make the statues of Mount Rushmore come alive and sing America the Beautiful. This bicentennial year gave us so many classic hits. Paul McCartney told John Lennon he can make silly love songs if he wants to. Rick Dees and his duck loved disco way too much. Starland Vocal Band got freaky in the afternoon while Wild Cherry proved that white boys can play funky music. Finally, Peter Frampton came alive in a major way. Sylvester Stallone put on a pair of gloves and went the distance. Sissy Spacek sent a telekinetic message to high school bullies everywhere. Peter Finch was mad as hell while Robert De Niro slowly went crazy in a New York City taxi. Jessica Lange fell in love with a big ape. Finally, satan's kid went terrorizing around while The Bad News Bears were tearing up the baseball field. Sally Field was a total nut in '76 with a million personalities. Nadia Comaneci blew away the '76 Olympics with 7 10's. The Muppets had their own show while Leonard Nimoy was In Search of... something. Charlie's Angels. kept every girl inspired and every boy aroused. Finally, Richard Dawson was too much of a flirt with every girl that appeared on Family Feud.

1977


In '77, disco was at its peak. Studio 54 opened in New York City and it packed millions of people every night. Speaking of which, New York City in 1977 was a horrifying place to live. The Son of Sam was roaming around the five boroughs shooting everybody. Then NYC had a blackout. Through all of its mess, the New York Yankees won the year's World Series. The president's brother came out with his own line of beer. Shields and Yarnell told us two mimes can actually act. Nancy Drew wanted to compete with Velma from Scooby-Doo. Finally, the miniseries Roots changed the whole world. On the music scene, Debbie Boone lit up everybody lives while Fleetwood Mac was spreading rumors all around the world. Thelma Houston begged her man not to leave her. ABBA crowned a dancing queen and Meat Loaf came out like a Bat Out Of Hell. Ted Nugent from cat scratch fever, was out of control and The King left the building for good. Most notably, the Punk Rock movement exploded and dominated all of 1977. For the movies, Star Wars was on top of the world while Richard Dreyfuss had a close encounter. Arnold Swarchenegger schooled Lou Ferrigno in pumping iron. The Kentucky Fried Movie had people laughing in the aisles. John Travolta ruled the dance floor. George Burns became God and Woody Allen and Diane Keaton were the best movie couple of '77. Seems Like Old Times.

1978


1978 had some of the biggest news stories in the world. First, Leon Spinks shockingly beat Muhammad Ali for the heavyweight championship. Then Louise Brown was born in a test tube. The game Simon made people feel more stupider than they think while people used Merlin for a telephone other than for games. Finally, Ginsu Knives were used in millions of homes that year. Speaking of that, Michael Myers chased Jamie Lee Curtis with it, all over the place in Halloween. Brad Davis took an ill-fated trip to Turkey while Debbie took over Dallas in a naughty way. The Man of Steel made his film debut. The Wizard of Oz turned ghetto and hip. Warren Beatty died then came back to life. A blind woman decided to take up figure skating. Grease dominated '78 and John Belushi formed his own frat house, TORA TORA!!!!!! Mick Jagger vowed that he will never be your beast of burden. The Bee Gees, along with the Saturday Night Fever Sountrack ruled the whole entire year. Meanwhile, their brother Andy was busy dancing with his shadow. The Commodores were in love with bigger women. A Taste of Honey did too much boogieing. Sid Vicious took domestic violence to a whole new level. Finally, Blondie's glass heart needed to be handled with care. A radio station in Cincinnati had odd employees. Cheryl Tiegs made millions of boys happy for making Sports Illustrated sexy and Ricardo Montalban made your fantasies come true.

1979


1979 gave us PJ Soles turning her high school into a concert while Hair was a concert with society. The Warriors proved that they are NOT! to be messed with. Robert Duvall decided to go surfing in Vietnam. Sally Field stood up to unionize her company. Bo Derek matched up with Dudley Moore. Kermit made a made a connection with a rainbow. The Amityville house should have been forclosed. Speaking of scary movies, Jane Fonda was investigating a power plant while Sigourney Weaver was getting whooped by an ailen. Every man jumped for joy when ESPN was born in '79 and when the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders showed up on the tube. Jimmy Carter and a rabbit got into a heated altercation and McDonald's Happy Meals got kids glued to McDonald's. Finally, Pittsburgh was the dominant city for sports in 1979, winning both the super bowl and the world series. Plus, Sister Sledge became their cheerleaders. Now on music, Donna Summer was the hot stuff of '79 while Joe Jackson was a jealous fool. The B52's bought a rock lobster. Anita Ward went around ringing bells. Gloria Gaynor survived to live another day and we still don't know what is a sharona, just ask The Knack. More importantly, Disco Demolition Night defined the end of the 70's. Finally, The Village People were an optimistic way to close out the decade.
