One of America's most severe winter was the winter 1976-77.
It started mid Deacember acrossthe Northren plains states.
During Januray of 1977 many states across America where seeing severe cold.
The state of Ohio saw an average temputure of 11.9 degrees, more than 11 degrees below average.
States from the Midwest to the Northeaast saw there coldest January on record.
Mnay of school closing took place because of the severe cold.
In some places school was cancelled for a week. the cold weather lingered throughout February.
Sioux Falls South Dakota saw there second coldest winter on record, the next winter was there coldest.
Cold winters like these where common throughout the 1970's. the 1970's in contarst to the 1990's for America, brought cooler than average winters and warm summers.
At the end of February temputures began to rise remineing people how severe the winter was.
