2,3-(S) Oxidosqualene is an intermediate in the synthesis of lanosterol. It is formed from squalene by squalene monooxygenase. Lanosterol synthase acts upon it to create lanosterol.

2,3-(R) Oxidosqualene is an inhibitor of lanosterol synthase.
