Worldwide fads and trends in the 2000s
The
2000s have ultimately been a continuation of the same issues of the
1980s and
1990s; such as ever-increasing
globalization in a
post-Cold War era.
However, many fads and trends in the decade have been influenced by a more global pop culture than in previous decades.
The
Pokemon phenomenon was seen as well as major protests over the
War in Iraq.
The 2000s has been a decade full of new technological and social advances such as the rise of
MP3 Player, and the increased use of
CD Burners which are on the way to replacing prerecorded
CDs.
Socially, the decade has seen a strong influence in pop culture, from the internet with sites such as
MySpace,
Facebook,
MyYearbook,
Xanga,
Wikipedia,
Blogger and
YouTube, and with some people becoming celebrities through
flash mobs and
internet memes like
Numa Numa or
pillow fight flash mobs.
In North America (United States and Canada)
In North America early in the decade, before the
September 11th attacks, a late 1990s lifestyle was the average with many
American and
Canadians caught in the
Pokemon boom,
Spongebob merchandise, and music from their favorite
Bubblegum Pop and
Alternative Rock bands.
But by 2002
patriotic clothing was worn by many in light of the September 11, 2001 attacks.
In urban areas across North America the wearing of a
beanie or
tuque become common as well as the tendency for men to
Sag their jeans to expose their
boxer shorts.
By the mid-2000s around
2003, the
United States started to come out of the
recession created in the aftermath, but entered a war.
In 2003, many Americans fiddled with their
Bungee Ball, which would disappear from store shelves by year's end and
Yu-Gi-Oh! cards.
In
2004 the
Punk subculture saw a resurgence and as a result the
Emo subculture grew as well.
By
2005 Nu Metal Rock music started a decline in popularity as a new
Pop-Punk and
Snap music boom was seen that continues on today.
2006 may be remembered most for the
Web 2.0 boom and the emergence of a participatory
culture, popularized by websites such as
YouTube,
Flickr,
Google,
MySpace,
Facebook,
Second Life, and
Wikipedia.
[1908] A summer fad in
2006 were the Crocs slippers.
2007 is a year where such shows such as
On the Lot,
Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?, and
Hannah Montana are prominent and when dance/electronica music continues to rise in popularity.
Fads for the 2000s also include
reality television and
Spinners.
As we are still in the decade there cannot be a paragraph for the Late 2000s because the Late 2000s include the years from 2007 to 2009.
If there was a paragraph on the late 2000s, the paragraph will be unreasonably short because fads are usually determined in hindsight, and often are unrecognizable in their early stages. comfort food In Europe
