2 February - Kailan Hassan the mother of fifth Malaysian Prime
Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi dies.
15 February - The pilot batch of Malaysia's first National Service program
begins their training at various camps across Malaysia. Two
additional batches joined the program in mid-March.
31 August - "Puteri Gunung Ledang"
(Princess of Mount Ledang (Ophir)), the famous big-budget movie in
Malaysia was now showing at cinema for the first time.
2 September - Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, a former deputy prime
minister released from the 6 year jail sentences.
26 December - The 2004 Asian
Tsunami killing about 130,000 people including more than 40
Malaysians. In Malaysia, the Tsunami could be felt in Langkawi and Penang.
Malaysia was only formed on
September 16, 1963. Prior to that date, Peninsular Malaysia was
known as Malaya when it was a British protectorate before
independence.
