The 2006 Malta Cup was held between 30 January and 5 February 2006 at the Hilton Conference Center, Portomaso, Malta.[1]
This was the first world ranking event in which the quarter-final line-up did not include any Englishmen. Previously, the fewest Englishmen to reach the quarter-finals of a ranking tournament had been one, at the 1997 World Championship.
Ken Doherty won in the final 9-8 against John Higgins.
