Through the months of 2005 and
2006 several weather events
occured during this time period. Severe Thunderstorm outbreaks,
heat waves,
blizzards,
landslides,
ice storms, and
short-living tornadoes occured during the years of 2005 and
2006 in the states of Ohio,
Indiana, and
Michigan. The governor
of the state of Ohio issued several State of Emergencies throughout
2005 and 2006 because of these weather events. Disaster
Areas were issued immediatley in some areas recieveing rounds of
flooding or
ice
storms.
January 05, 2005 - Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam, and especially Allen counties recieved power outages after a major ice storm
anywhere from two to seven days. Almost everyone had trees or tree
limbs down in their yard. Roofs were damaged by limbs, or water in their
basements after sump
pumps lost power.
January 06, 2005 - The ice continued overnight meaning that
residents remained with no power. Several accidents were reported
in the ice storm area. After all was done, the clean up was slow
because cold temperatures and snow reamined immenit in these
areas.
May 13, 2005 - Severe thunderstorms once again
arrived in the state of Ohio
on May 13th. The Mansfield, Ohio area recieved damaging winds
in which blew down large trees and damage to a racetrack. A
tornado also occured in
Scioto County which damaged several old
trees in the county. A barn's roof also was ripped
off.
June
June
05, 2005 - A derecho raced across Extreme
Northwest
Ohio on this day producing staright line winds in which caused
widespread damage. Power outages were also reported. Other areas in
the state also recieved storm damage, but not as considerable.
June 14, 2005 - Southeatern Ohio recieved a line of severe
thunderstorms with wind gusts near 60 mph. Some locations seeing over 60 mph. Hail as large as one inch was reported in
Coshocton County.
June 28, 2006 - Severe thunderstorms producing large hail and
damaging winds occured in the Akron-Canton
area, which is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Area. Quarter
inch sized hail was reported
in Canton,
Ohio.
