  • The tournament is structured into 2 armies who fight every Saturday using the mod. There is also practice most days of the working week in preparation for Battleday (Sunday). There is separate training for EU and US players to make it more accessible for players from each area.

The tournament officially uses teamspeak as its main source of communication between players but Xfire, MSN and Skype are often used as well.

The Tourney stresses the importance of: fun, communication, teamwork and friendliness. Anybody who plays BF2142 and who wants to join a tourney with a fun team oriented group of players is invited to join the tourney at the website:

    The Armies

The armies have a structured ranking system The top rank is that of the General, s/he is a committed, highly experienced member of the community. He controls everything in the army and handles the more important business of the army and hands outs tasks to his XO and captains. The XO's are only answerable to their leader who totally commands the army who's rank is that of the General. His superiors are the tournament administrators. Any soldier can drop a request into the chain of command and have it heard by whomever can deal with it although if necessary anybody can simply talk to the administrators in charge of the tournament.

Each army is divided into several companies, each of which has its own Captain who leads the company, sets practices, cleans the company's forums and cleans the roster. He is supported by a ranked structure of officers and non-commissioned officers which are relied on to carry out many of the tasks in case of the Captains absence and lead at different times on battleday. Out of these companies there are Line companies, and specialised companies: Armor, Air Force, Special Forces. The specialised armor squad will use the ground based vehicles on battleday. The air force, similar in structure to the armor squad, are tasked with using air vehicles if accessible. The Special Forces do the hardest jobs and are usually used as fast response teams to assist the line companies. All these specialised squads will have entry tests that must be passed to enter. The line companies are tasked with doing the main fighting on the ground around the cappable bases. They do almost all the fighting on the ground, either attacking points or defending them.

    The Battle

Every Sunday at 1pm EST an four-to-five hour battle begins.
Two armies battle it out in Air, land and water to become victorious and to conquer the precious territory.
The tournament encourages teamplay and the armies fight using teamwork and communication.

The battle begins at 1pm EST/ 5pm GMT. Soldiers are not allowed outside of main bases from 4.30pm GMT/ 11.30 EST and the two sides must have a least 6 men on each otherwise the battle is forfeited. The battle starts with 3 rounds on a map chosen by last weeks winning army. The second map is map chosen by last weeks loser and lastly 3 rounds are played on a second map of the previous weeks winner's choice.
The winning General picks the two maps for the next battle after the battle. These are then fixed and tweaked throughout the week so they are perfected for Battleday.

    Custom Maps at 2142 Tournament

    Written by Nitros

2142 Tournament is full of unique talents and people. Many players come together to make the tournament a success. One of these players is Called. Called is a custom map maker for the tournament, and also converts stock maps into playable maps for the tournament>>>>continued Recently I interviewed Called and asked him some questions about one of his newer custom maps and about his history in map making and coding. Without people who work and dedicate time to the tournament, this place would not be as successful as it is now.

Called is an old school player who has been around for a few years and has seen games come and go. He has seen their evolution from text based all the way to the 3D graphics of current day games. Called is a professional Graphic Artist. He started his mapping career during 1981 with a pure text based game called, "Eamon". It was a game based on D&D. Games have changed considerably since those days, but Called still maps. Recently he has completed three different custom maps. The one focused on in this article will be Osanippa River Bridge Map. Also recently completed or close to being completed, are Aegis Station and The Lazarus Project.

Osanippa River Bridge took Called about one month to finish the map. For one month's work the map looks very well done. It is up to par with the maps made by DICE. The map is a conquest game type and features a bridge, if you couldn't gather from the name of the map. The PAC and EU armies start off on either side of the map and make a rush to the capture points which are located throughout the map. The map has an abundance of vegetation and water. There are little towns, a military outpost, toll booths, and much more. When I first started the map I was in utter awe at the size of the map. Most custom maps are smaller in size or if large they lack a lot of detail that gives a sense of reality to the map. Each area of this map is meticulously detailed and put together.

    The Osanippa River Bridge

The Varsuuk Landing alone is a very detailed and a hotspot during any fire fight. Unlike a lot of stock maps the map offers multiple levels during a firefight. Instead of focusing on one area you have to check above you, below you, and to your sides. It adds a sense of chaos that is present in a real life firefight.

View of the Varsuuk Landing Flag that is suspended in above ground outpost.

The outpost hidden behind the trees.

On the cat walk to the flag... careful you are bit high.

The Island Town, which is Called’s favorite part of the map, is a nicely detailed little village. It adds character and depth to the story. Also, the town is a ferocious place for infantry combat and leads for very hectic and fun close quarters combat. Be careful not to cause fratricide.

On the streets inside of the town.

Other than the Varsuuk Landing and the Island Town, the only other way to get across the river is by crossing the bridge. The bridge features some narrow areas and toll booths which will provide choke points for both sides and really heat up the battle for control over the Osanippa Bridge. Enjoy the battles on the map and take in the nice scenery when the time allows and bullets are not flying past your head.

I dare you to run the toll booths!

That gun is to shoot anyone who decides to not pay the toll!

Called has not been taking time off after finishing Osanippa River Bridge. He has been working hard on two other maps, as previously stated earlier. These maps are great maps also but would make this article too long, to talk about them now. I do have a special goodie for you readers though. Called has provided some little tips on his new maps!

“On Aegis station, get ready for a night time blizzard map with lot's of armor! In The Lazarus Project, check for secret passageways and forget spawn beacons. “

Besides finishing up these new custom maps for the new campaign, Called is also working on more maps for the future. Here is a little leak from the creator himself.

“I'm also working on a remake of and my favorite Halo 1 map ‘Death Island.’ Maps I haven't started yet, but are on my "to do" list is ‘Trench Warfare,’ and a remake of a BF1942 map ‘Operation Baytown.’"

Some nice maps are defiantly in store for 2142 Tournament in the coming months and campaigns. Called loves having the players battle it out for victory on his maps, and 2142 Tournament players love playing on his maps.

In summary of this article, Called is one of the many people who keep 2142 Tournament running. Without his dedication and hard work many of the maps that players play each battle weekend would not exist. So get out there and play those custom maps, support your mappers and support 2142 Tournament! This is Nitros, signing off.
