Derick Michael Brown
(born
July 26,
1990), better known as his rap
name
2Tech, is an
American rapper who dreamed of becoming the youngest,
spiritual, hip-hop artist. Inspired by
Tupac Shakur,
Nas, and
DMX, 2Tech
took a shot at his dream.
Biography
Childhood
Memories
Born in
Los Angeles,
California, he lived one year of his life in Los
Angeles. Derick moved out to Northtown, Las Vegas on 21st street
when he was one-year old. As a young child, he attended to a near
by preschool and elementary. When Derick was 7, him and his family
moved to Henderson, Las Vegas and he attended Roberta C. Cartwright
Elementary School, a year-around school.
In
1999, he made it to the fourth grade. He met, his
first rapping partner,
DJ. Him and DJ called
themselves "Cali-Dawgs" because they were both from California.
Derick wasn't known as 2Tech at the time, he called himself "Lil
Dawgie D." Both DJ and Derick dreamed of being rap stars and wrote
many lyrics at the age of 9.
By the year of
2001, Derick moved out of the elementary life and
began the life of a junior highschool student. He attended
Silvestri Junior High School from
2001-
2004. Him and
DJ continued to do rap music but as the year went on, Derick slowed
down on the music and continued doing other activites such as
drawing, skateboarding, and school. Derick Brown got sentenced on a
3-day suspension from Silvestri over a fight that he got into in
the seventh grade. Derick participated in alot of after school
activities such as the art club, basketball, etc. Derick's eighth
grade year rolled around and he began a little bit of writing
again, but he never took it to the heart.
After his last year at
Silvestri Junior High School, Derick had started his life in
highschool.
The Birth of 2Tech
2Tech was
givin to Derick when he was in the by two of his friends,
GRich and
Jinx Lane, because he
was way too technical with what he was saying and what he was
doing. Everytime Derick got into an argument, he always went way
too technical with the conversation and the situation.
At this
time, he attended
Liberty High School as a ninth grader
(freshman). Derick tried out for Liberty's basketball team and made
the squad. Derick was 14 when he began his real rap career. He
started writing songs but didn't have a place to record at. He
walked around daily with folded sheets of paper jammed in his
pocket and a pen/pencil. Derick realized that he finally needed a
rap name so he can be credited for his music.
He went through
various of rap names such as
The Realest,
D-Nyce,
Lil
D, and
Baby Smoke.
He decided to take rapping to
the heart again, in the summer of
2004 after hearing his cousin's demo CD called
The
Manish.
His ninth grade year went on and nobody gave him
much respect and didn't think he would make it far in the music
industry. He was constantly writing to get better. He wrote at
home, in class, at his basketball games, etc. Derick was so anxious
to make his lyrics better and wasn't stopping for anything untill
he achieved the goal he desired. About mid-way through the year, he
met his other rapping partner GRich. Ever since then, Derick and
GRich been making lyrics together.
His tenth grade year came
back around and he was still continuing to rap. He began working on
a mixtape, but he didn't have a spot to record at. Because of this,
Derick put down the pencil and pad and quitted rapping. Once again,
he tried out for the basketball team and made the team with his
partner GRich. Around this time, GRich and his other basketball
teammate, Jinx Lane, had gave him the name 2Tech. Still with
nothing to record in, 2Tech continued to write lyrics for the
future.
By the end of his tenth grade year, GRich gave him
Cool Edit
Pro to record on and used a headset to record into.
Around
the summer of
2006, 2Tech
recorded and released his first two singles called
Hang Like That and
Praise. By having his
Myspace, he was able to
put his songs out there to let everyone hear his lyrics. Thinking
about the outcome of what he did, that was a bad idea. People were
making fun of 2Tech and his songs because of how wack his voice
sounded, but this never stopped 2Tech from doing what he wanted to
do.
By his 11th grade year at Liberty High School, he continued
his rap career with the headset and the same program. After some
time, he released his other two singles:
Uh-Oh and
Check Yourself. These singles increased
2Tech's respect greatly. Even though some people thought he was
nice at it, he still thought he had a long way to go before he
actually can make his career. After some time, 2Tech put down the
pencil and pad and started freestyling his tracks.
After
releasing a couple of his freestyle tracks, he began writing again.
By winter, 2Tech was given a studio microphone to rap into instead
of a headset. After he recieved this, he began releasing many more
new singles.
