33DEGREE are a female fronted rock band formed in
2003 in
Los
Angeles,
CA. Their first and
only release to date is a 5 volume pocket CD set called
Regret The Heredity. Despite different
offers the band has remained independent and continues to write,
record, and play their brand of moody prog rock at shows around the
West Coast.
Band History
Early Career:
2003-2006
33DEGREE or
Thirty Three Degree were formed in
2003 following the demise of
Las Vegas based band
God Among Men. GAM's demise left
singer/songwriter duo Elizabeth and Andrew Blair in
Los Angeles and looking for a
project that was less mainstream. Through
Music Connection
Magazine the 2 met actor and drummer
Andrew Mackenzie
and began writing music at
Downtown Rehearsal in Downtown
Los Angeles.
After several months the search for a bass player ended when
Scott Lehr aka
Jesus, walked in and started
playing as if he'd been in the band for years. With the line-up
complete the four piece played their first show at Hollywood's
Dragonfly and began
touring the West Coast. Soon after the band was inspired to release
a 5 volume pocket cd set called
Regret The Heredity. VOL I was
released on 3/3/03 and featured 3 songs. Soon after VOL II and VOL
III we're released, but as of 2008 VOL IV and V have yet to be
released. The rumor is that the final volume is planned for a
9/9/09, to coincide with the bands love of numerology. The band
attracted the attention of
Teki-Pyro records as well as several managers, but
to date the band has remained completely independent. In 2006 the
band contributed a song called "Prey" as well as the score to the
independent horror film
The Lonely Ones. The group has played with
National acts such as
Disturbed,
Static X,
Mushroomhead,
The Apex Theory, and many
more.
Medical Delays: 2004
While singer [[Liz] has
dealt with her
Epilepsy since she was a teenager, she has never
been able to completely control or predict her seizures, which has
led to a somewhat reclusive lifestyle, and can make touring
difficult. In addition, drummer
Mack has long had to endure a strict regime to controls
his diabetes. Despite his great physical health and constant
attention to his disease he suffered a stroke in 2004. He quickly
recovered and at his request the band was playing just months after
his stroke. In 2006, while assisting
Liz during a seizure, guitarist
Blair suffered a slip disc in his lower back,
which has contributed to delays in recording and
touring.
The Neverending Recording: 2006-2008
In 2006
the group began working with
Josh Newell at
NRG Studios in
North Hollywood,
CA. While the sessions were planned to be slow to
give the band a break from their years of touring, they ended up
taking longer than expected. Part of the delays were due to the
fact that the band also rerecorded VOL I, since it was originally
record 1/2 step lower than the bands current tuning. In addition,
the group began recording the acoustic version of
Regret The
Heredity known as the "White version".
Currently
In
2008 the band wrapped up recording and found renewed energy and
opportunities. The band finished writing VOL IV and VOL V and are
currently working on pre-production. They have played several high
profile shows including a sold out show at Hollywood's famous
Viper Room. The
show featured
KHZ from
New York and special
guest
Dave
Navarro and was hosted by Myspace Metal's
Metal Sanaz. On the business
front the band recently signed a publishing deal with
Gotham Records from
New York and are
working on several content deals including an International
Navigation System, soon to be released by
Ingram-Micro.
