The 3rd Regiment, West Virginia Volunteer Infantry was a Union regiment in the American Civil War, raised as Third Virginia Infantry in June 1861 and serving until May 1863, when the regiment was mounted and became known as Third Virginia Infantry Mounted. After West Virginia became a state, the regiment was retitled as Third West Virginia Volunteer Infantry. Several months later in January 1864 the designation was again changed, this time to Sixth West Virginia Cavalry. It continued to serve in Kansas and Nebraska after the end of the war as Sixth West Virginia Veterans Volunteer Cavalry and was disbanded on 22 May 1866 in Fort Leavenworth.
