Anglo-Chinese School (Independant)

Much has changed in Anglo-Chinese School in the passing millenium. As of 2003, Dr Ong Teck Chin, principal and CEO of the Anglo-Chinese School instated the Integrated Programme, the pre-cursor for the International Baccalaureate, as a new course for study. As of 2005, ACS (Independant) is now recognized as an IB world school.

The following is a brief write-up from a class currently in the Integrated Programme about the Integrated Programme and ACS (Independant).

Four Sixteen Enoch

"Gentlemen, you people are the pioneering batch of the Anglo-Chinese School 's Integrated Programme cum International Baccalaureate. Do us proud."

4.16 Enoch, last of the eight IP/IB classes of Anglo-Chinese School , instated in the year two thousand and four, housing thirty two boys. Bound by friendship and the common mentality of the class spirit, 4.16 Enoch has indeed grown from strength to strength in terms of camaraderie and kinship.

Situated on the Grey Level (First Level) of the Anglo Chinese School classroom block, Enoch was strategically placed near areas of food and play. Furthermore, it enjoyed ample space being one of the only two classrooms on the grey level and this separation from the rest of the school has arguably led to the development of 4.16 Enoch as a whole, evolving and creating a unique and inimitable culture for themselves.

Early 4.16

Starting out as green necks in the second year of the IP programme, with only a year of experience working together as a class, the members of 4.16 set out to achieve the best that they could be. Having suffered the humiliation of coming out amongst the bottom of the IP rung, Enoch set its sights on becoming a household name not only amongst its IP peers but school wide.

With a myriad of talents in film making, acting, music, art and general academia, Enoch was all the more determined to succeed as a young class.

Within the first few days of its formation, Enoch had to establish a strong class leadership. The duties of class management fell to five individuals. Timothy Seow as Class Chairman, Brian Lee Tan as Vice Chairman, Jonathan Lui as Treasurer, Reuben Ong as Secretary and Darren Chew as Sports Representative, Enoch was ready to meet the challenges of the coming year.

Overseas Education Programme 2005 - Kluang

"Four fifteen and Four sixteen, tribe Courageous Heart."

The annual Overseas Education Programme (OEP) organized by the school proved to be a very enriching experience for the young members of Enoch. Forming an alliance with their distant neighbours of the grey level, they set out on a long tiring journey up north for a camp that they would never forget.

Along this journey, the members of Enoch had to rely not only on their unique gifts, but on each other to pull through the multitude of challenges that awaited them each day spent in Kluang; challenges that called upon their strength, team spirit, coordination and leadership and challenges that pushed them to the limit and forced them miles outside of their comfort zones. Amongst the tumult, the members of Enoch turned to one another for support, encouragement and more importantly, a good laugh.

After a week's worth of torture, 4.16 Enoch emerged smelling like a rose, figuratively speaking, the bonds between them now enforced after having ate, slept, played, bathed, toiled, struggled together. To keep up the cheerful atmosphere despite the dreary conditions, songs like "Chairman Seow" and the "Call of Knifeman" were written impromptu, lasting memories not only for the students of Enoch but for their accompanying teachers, instructors and the rest of the camp.

Regular Life in the class of Enoch

Life has never at any point in time been monotonous in the class of Enoch. Sparked and fuelled by the unique characters that co-inhabited the classroom, Enoch was always bustling with energy; energy unleashed not only in its excellent project records, but also in the random activities that occurred during inter-period breaks and recess.

Games such as Cushion-Tennis and Cushion Mayhem FFA, singalongs to songs such as Highway to Hell by ACDC and No Woman, No Cry by Bob Marley and general off-topic chit chat built up 4.16 as a community of individuals coming together as one yet maintaining their uniqueness in character.

Even during curriculum time, the class remains a hive of activity, participating in the lessons and working on their projects. Rarely are the lessons static as the constant student-teacher interaction through activities designed for the purpose of not only education but to enhance the communication skills and leadership skills of the students through different modules.

4.16 Enoch has suffered its share of loss; originally beginning as a class of thirty two, it has lost two of its upstanding members. 4.16 Enoch. Its Legacy.

It is now coming to the end of year 2005 and along with it comes the inevitable break up of 4.16 Enoch '05. Yet, each one of its members holds on firmly to the beliefs of the class, bonded to each other by the unbreakable class spirit that is 4.16 Enoch.

Just as the sun sets so must the class of Enoch '05 disband; yet, the legacy that it leaves behinds in the minds of those who have had the honour of being a member of the class lives on forever.
