48 in the basement was a punk band from Long Island, NY.
They were formed in 1996 by childhood friends Paul Laino and Mike Koscik.
The addition of members Jeremy D'Amico and Matty Lupinacci completed the original lineup.
Over the years the band did go through a number of lineup changes, and each incoming band member was given a pseudonym.
Their style of play was often described as melodic pop punk.
Over their seven year career, the band gained a heavy following in the local Long Island scene.
48 in the basement was well known both for their music and for being banned by the venues in which they played, due mostly to the antics of lead singer Mike Koscik.
However the band was instrumental to the Long Island punk scene by frequently setting up shows with local bands and finding new venues.
A few months after their second US tour the band called it quits.
They played a reunion show with the original members in 2004 at Cedar Beach in Rocky Point, NY.
