The rivalry started when
Cam'ron phoned in to
Angie Martinez show on
Hot 97 when
50 Cent was there.
The Interview
On
February 1,
2007 50 Cent appeared as a guest on
Hot 97 of Angie Martinez. While talking
about his upcoming album and other artists Angie informed 50 that
were people on the line calling in to talk to 50. One of these
people was
Styles P of
D-Block <ref>
</ref>. After the Styles P conversation ended mostly
peacefully Angie informed 50 that more people were calling in. The
next person who came onto the air was
Cam'Ron of
The Diplomats.
The conversation started out peacefully but soon escalated into an
argument as 50 claimed that
Koch Records was a 'graveyard'. After some
incipient tension, the conversation precipitously changed into a
rhubarb about how many record sales from their respective artists
Lloyd Banks and
Jim
Jones. Cam'Ron ridiculed
Lloyd Banks for selling 300,000 records on a
major label when
Jim Jones sold as much while having a
smaller fan base and being on an
independent record label. Angie
Martinez later had to cut Cam'ron off from the conversation due to
his frequent use of profanity <ref> </ref>. However,
after Cam'ron got cut off the air, and 50 Cent left Hot 97,
Jim
Jones called in and tried to clear up Cam's
comments.<ref> </ref>
50 Cent's response
50 Cent released the diss record "
Funeral Music" aimed at Cam'ron at 12
midnight on
DJ Kay
Slay's myspace page on Thursday, February 8th. The song
references Cam'ron's involvement in
Koch Records as a sign of his career being
over, and that Cam'ron is no longer fit to lead
Dipset. He also states that
Jim
Jones should lead instead.<ref>

Cam has since recorded a response called Curtis which aired on Hot
97 on Friday the 9th. In the song, Cam states that 50 snitched on
him to his parole officer. Cam'ron discredits the name 50 Cent
borrowed by Curtis Jackson in reference to the Kelvin Martin. He
also makes fun of his appearance and teeth calling him "A gorilla
with rabbit teeth" and "Bugs Monkey". The video aired on DukeDaGod
and Cam'ron's Myspace on February 15th.<ref>
