A blast at the British consulate building in New York City damaged a window and a car window. It was reported that a "novelty type grenade" used with some powder inside and a fuse was denotated in a cement flower box used as a barrier outside the building. The blast occurred on May 5, Cinco de mayo, the day of British Elections as Tony Blair was seeking a third term. The target of the attack is unclear, the British consulate was one of many tenants in the building.
