The 68k Macintosh Liberation Army, or 68kMLA, is a membership-based forum for collectors, users and owners of 68k-
based Apple Macintosh personal computers and other vintage Apple Computer hardware. The 68kMLA is known not only as a
forum, but rather as a worldwide group devoted to rescuing the lives of 68k-based series Macintosh computers.

History

The 68k Macintosh Liberation Army project began initially as discussion threads on the MacAddict forums, started by members FireWire
is Fast and MacScuzzy. The first prototypes were in development by member FireWire is Fast and were eventually transformed in to a forum
by 68kMLA member ~Coxy.

After intense planning and design work, the 68k Macintosh Liberation Army was installed with the Snitz Forums Software on a server known
as Literature Classics at the address of www.literatureclassics.com/68kmla (now defunct).

The 68kMLA was founded on 6 November 2001 as a spin-off of the MacAddict Vintage Macs forum by a number of founding
members. By August 2003, the 68kMLA had acquired over 1000 members. On December 27 2003, the 68kMLA forums moved to use the phpBB forum software to replace the older software used previously.

The forum has been rebuilding their member count ever since, acquiring over 600 by the start of 2006.

Present

The 68k Macintosh Liberation Army, as of 2006, consists of 18 forums, based on general topics to specific information. These 68kMLA is split up in to 3 sections.

First are the general forums, known as the "General 68kMLA News & Stuff". These forums consist of, as stated, News and General
Discussions. Specific to these forums are also the "68k Conquests", where members can report back on any new Macintosh finds. Second
are the Macintosh discussion forum, where all Help, Software and Peripheral discussion takes place. Finally are the Specific model forums, where members discuss each type of Mac, including straying in the the field of NuBus PPC.

The community is in direct partnership with their magazine project, known as the MLAgazine, however this has not yet been updated past issue 2, which was issued in 2005. This project was in development from the previous forums (known as the Snitz forums) and has continued in to the present day of the current forums (known as the phpBB forums).

The community has an active IRC channel on the Undernet server and also a Hotline server.
