7K is a four-piece, alternative rock group, from Huntington Beach, California.
Members include lead vocalist and rhythym guitarist Jeff Garvin, lead guitarist David Neil Black, bassist Carlos Rivera, Jr., and drummer Corey Manske.
7K continually draw comparisons to The Police, Live, 311, Led Zeppelin, and others, and attract a diverse demographic spectrum of listeners with their skillful musicianship and often humorous lyrics.
Founded by Garvin and Rivera in 2001, 7K underwent lineup changes over a period of several years, eventually enlisting rock veterans Black and Manske, a move which cemented the band's signature sound.
Currently, the group plays live and tours heavily, and have built both a solid presence in the Orange County music scene and a strong fanbase without the benefit of a recording contract, a testimony to their collective vision and drive.
Jeff Garvin, known as "Blazer", handles the duty of providing the group's lead vocals, and cuts a dramatic figure in his trademark leather pants and spiked hairstyle.
Garvin, an accomplished stage and screen actor with numerous films to his credit, commands attention through his inspired onstage antics and impressive, nearly operatic vocal range.
Resplendent in his oversized muttonchop sideburns and red pompadour, Carlos Rivera, Jr., who also answers to "Diablo", holds a
University of Southern California graduate degree in music, and employs his considerable talents on the 5-string bass to lay the groundwork for 7K's tight pacing and difficult, syncopated changeups.
The brooding David Neil Black (nickname: "Doc"), is known as much for his colorful, vintage embroidered western shirts, as for his driving lead guitar and bluesy, intricate solos rooted in country rock, and augmented by complex arpeggios and subtle harmonics in a style reminiscent of
Stevie Ray Vaughn or
Jimmy Page.
Corey "Machine" Manske is a veteran of many bands who builds his own snares, and rivets the attention of fellow drummers in the crowd, with his cool professionalism, technical proficiency and metronome-like sense of timing.
Citing influences ranging from
Rush's Neil Peart to Chad Smith of
311, Manske ranks high among Southern California's best.
In the summer of 2006, 7K released the double-disc EP "Knick Knacks and Apparel", an album characterized by its uncompromising production quality, bookended by a live concert DVD, "7K: Live in O.C.", which was filmed at Hogue Barmichael's, a popular Orange County nightclub.
Sales were strong, both at live venues and online, and the group plans to return to the studio in mid-2007 to record new material and resume touring later in the year, accompanied by "The World Famous 7K Girls", two attractive young women who support their friends in the band through spirited, 60's-style, miniskirt-clad dancing, onstage, during select shows.
The band's breakout release, "Through the Windshield", was produced in 2005 by Dean Dinning, bassist for popular early 90's electronic rockers
Toad The Wet Sprocket, and has attracted the attention of music and media luminaries, such as Chad Sexton, the drummer of 311, and Curtis Andersen, who runs Wiggy Von Schtick: A House of Ideas, a film company currently wrapping production on
"Blood and Guts", where 7K's song "Who Dies First" is featured in the closing credits of the movie's soundtrack.
The four members of 7K exude a polished, businesslike marketing and merchandising sense, and are prepared for the day when major labels come courting the band.
Garvin recently copyrighted the band's stylish, iconic logo, and the group work tirelessly, establishing their name and image and building credibility.
The group's sponsorships, which include
Daisy Rock Guitars and
Vater Percussion drumsticks, help allay the cost of the band's frequent, self-funded, touring in Southern California and Arizona, where 7K enjoys a strong presence on college radio.
Savvy, homegrown online marketing campaigns have included both CD and propreitary merchandise sales of shirts, coffee mugs, etc., producing a modest income.
Tireless live performers, the band are a well-known staple at venerable music forums like The Cat Club in Hollywood, Angel's Roadhouse in Yucaipa, and Anaheim's
House of Blues, a venue that has hosted 7K on several occasions.
The band continues to earn new fans, both domestically and abroad, some of whom place orders and buy 7K-themed merchandise from far-flung locations such as Singapore, Japan, and India.
The 7K website

MySpace page
display text have logged thousands of hits since going online in 2004.
In early 2007, 7K headlined a benefit show at Anaheim's House of Blues, an event which featured cast members of the television series
"Laguna Beach".
Critical response to 7K's musical efforts has been overwhelming and largely supportive.
ROCKEYEZ.COM, an online music review magazine, has claimed: "These guys are a freak of nature.
They are sensational."
Albert Vega of MUSIC CONNECTION magazine, said in June 2004:
"7k dishes out a potent breed of catchy hooks, interesting breaks, and huge choruses...from FM ballads to pounding rock...7k's power pop runs the gamut from mid-90's alternative balladry to full-blown, arena-sized assaults.
At their peak, the four-piece have all the makings of a rock powerhouse, complete with giddy female and fist-pumping male fandom."
In the spirit of progress, the band have, according to their website, declared the upcoming year to be: "2007k."
Rock and roll.
