Arts & Entertainment Television Networks
(also known as A&E Television Networks or
simply AETN) is a U.S. media company that owns
several TV networks on cable and satellite. The company is jointly owned by
Corporation, Disney-ABC Television
Group, and NBC
Universal. AETN's networks include:
On August 27, 2009, A&E Television Networks acquired Lifetime Entertainment
AETN has an international division, called AETN International,
which handles international operations outside the U.S., mostly
through joint ventures.
AETN UK is a joint venture of A&E
Television Networks and the United Kingdom's largest subscription
television provider British Sky Broadcasting
(BSkyB) through the Sky Ventures division. Previously it operated
under the name The History Channel UK, it
broadened its association beyond a single programming genre. AETN UK
operates channels throughout the European region, as well as the
Middle East and Africa.
AETN All Asia Networks Pte. Ltd. (AAAN) was
formed on April 2007 through a joint venture between A&E
Television Networks and Malaysia's pay TV provider Astro through its subsidiary
ASTRO All Asia Entertainment Networks Limited. Headquartered in Singapore, AETN All Asia
Networks also have operations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. AAAN
currently operates four channels in the Asian region.
In 2009, AETN All Asia Networks struck a US$800,000 co-production
deal with the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia to
co-produce programmes to be featured across its channels. It has
recently hired SPE Networks as a regional
ad sales representative across the South East Asian region.
