A.J.Rightway is a fictional
character used extensively by the Wilson
County School System in a character education program
introduced in the fall of 2005.
Efforts
The community was
considered a vital instrument by which to reinforce the character
education taught in the school systems. Wilson Education Partnership
(WEP) invested $15,000 just to post signs around Wilson
[729] in an attempt to
remind school children about the way in which they should
act.
Criticism
Many members of the community have expressed
dislike for the A.J. Rightway character education curiculam. The
Righway character is stylized in a way which can be offensize to
the African-American racial group. Many also feel that the
curiculam does not effect the way the children
behave.
