AMC Publishing (Agent Media Corporation) is a company producing marketing material for the insurance industry and located in
Clearwater, Florida, where the
Church of Scientology maintains a very high presence with its "spiritual headquarters".
AMC was first located in
Dallas, Texas, before moving to Clearwater in December 1993.
[573]According to
Arnaldo Lerma, AMC Publishing employs only the highest levels of Scientologists in management, and was originally headed by Scientologist
Mary De Moss, who also ran some of the Scientology
Office of Special Affairs front groups such as the now-defunct
bigotwatch.net and the
Foundation for Religious Tolerance.
[574] After De Moss, AMC was headed by Scientologists
Bennetta Slaughter, David Slaughter, and Jeffrey Lee Schaffner,
[575] and managed by Brian Rakestraw.
[576]AMC made worldwide news headlines in 1995 when Scientologist
Lisa McPherson, an AMC employee, died under questionable circumstances at the
Fort Harrison Hotel, a case which finally reached a wrongful-death settlement with the Church of Scientology in 2004.
[577]In 2004, AMC was sold to Post Capital Partners LLC, a New York-based private investment firm, and Roscoe C.
Smith III, a publishing industry veteran.
