'AOHack
programs were add-on programs to America Online that
violated their Terms of Service, performed illegal
activities, and disrupted the service. These programs were sometimes referred to as
Progz or Proggiez.
These programs, like AOHell (the first), were normally made in
Visual Basic
versions 3.0 and 4.0.Rare programs that were not distributed widely
were made in Delphi or C .The
Visual Basic AOHack programs often would use stolen code from other
AOHack programs.The new
programs would be only slightly modified by their creator.
These
programmers largely were used to distribute pirated software,
called warez, to scroll macros, and to phish for passwords and credit card
numbers.They had
generally the same features as AOHell, such as scrolling chat
rooms, and [leet] text conversion.

charge.Ryan later
pleaded guilty to computer fraud as a result of his online
activity, which included gaining access to some of the highest
level accounts on AOL including Steve Case's personal AOL account.
*This was the
first program of this type that was widely distributed throughout
AOL.

* This was the very

was written and released by Realmz also lesser known as Mcdog in
1995 in which he distributed three different
versions.Each program
contained over 1,000 fake accounts that could be
created.Accounts
consisted of credit card prefixes like the commonly used 40191
which only lasted a few days to rare working prefixes that could
last up to 3 months. Each version became obsolete after a majority
of the accounts were created.

WhiteHell innovated a lot of one click features within Macintosh
AOHack programs.
White's
ingenuity with the oneclick programming language gave him the
ability to write scripts for one click that could now perform as
complex of operations as the Visual Basic based programs for
PCs.

Vertigo TOSer (by thret)
X-Zone
AOTOSer programs
were AOHack programs designed to mainipulate AOL Terms of Service
(TOS).TOSer programs
would utilize multiple phished or brute force hacked screen
names.Once loaded the
TOSer would automatically sign on and off the AOL service sending
out multiple terms of service violation reports to AOL, thus
creating a set of realistic violations (multiple TOS reports), the
result was after a number of requests, AOL would cancel the target
victims account.This
practice was also used by members of a different AOL hacking groups
to disrupt or shut down opposing
competition.
With
the eventual upgrades to the main AOL software, going from the
simple AOL 2.5 to the now modern 9.0, AOL has been able to stay
further ahead than the AOHack programmers. The "warez" rooms of the mid to late 1990s have
all but vanished, and the AOHack programs have been relegated to
the history of AOL.AOL
has also moved away from its proprietary RAINMAN software and begun to focus more on the
World Wide Web.Although
the hack and warez scene somehow held on megerely throughout the
late 1990's on AOL, many people who were considered the pioneers of
AOL Hacking had long since left to IRC after the TOS raids of 96'
which ended up shutting down hundreds of fake accounts, permanently
banning certain private rooms, and an enforcement of real time
credit card and checking account verfication which signaled the
beginning of the end.Days of hacking AOL and being part of an
underground scene and culture were to never be the
same.AOL had been left
to the kids who still wanted to trade files, and to the people who
have no idea how to use their computer.
Associated Private
Rooms
During the period of increased popularity surrounding
these programs, many private rooms on the AOL service were
established and inhabited by program traders, and, in many cases,
the programmers themselves. These rooms served many purposes and often
became think tanks for new features in future programs.
