ARFCOM is an abbreviation for AR15.com, an online community responsible for several significant political campaigns. Started as an online forum devoted to the AR-15 rifle, it has become a premier internet community and the source of many campaigns such as a 2006 activism campaign designed to convince the government to do something to stop illegal immigration. Members of the site participated in but were not exclusively responsible for the swift and overwhelming backlash against Jim Zumbo, an outdoors writer and TV personality who spoke out against so-called "assault rifles" likening their owners to terrorists. His comments were seen as treachery by the online gun community and their dilligent efforts swiftly contributed to his sponsorships being pulled, and the loss of his television show. In addition, it is a vast technical resource for those who seek information on the history, operation, maintenance and use of AR15 type rifles in particular, and firearms in general.

Send a Brick campaign

The most political and well-known campaign originating from AR15.com is the Send A Brick campaign. The goal of the campaign was to convince politicians to build a wall along the southern border of the United States of America to reduce illegal immigration. Beginning in 2006, the campaign called for civilians to mail bricks to various government officials with notes attached describing the desire of the sender for a wall to be built. This campaign received brief coverage on national news programming and the creator of the campaign was interviewed on several news stations.

Long Distance Murder Rifles

The infamous term was coined by a former ar15.com member who infiltrated the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. The concept centers around using hyperbolic hoplophobic statements to demonstrate a singular point to sport shooters who prefer antique style weapons, namely that some people feel that all guns are equally bad.

The infiltrator was Tostitos, who was locked. While other members get multiple locks and 'try again' reprieves, he has received no such consideration, even though he selflessly pounded the final nails into Zumbo's coffin by commandeering the Brady Myspace blogs.

Arfcom and Wikipedia

Although Arfcom has a world respected technical section, the 'general' posters tend to be fairly immature. Frequently they recycle years-old 4chan and other internet memes, and then assume that a mainstream reference to such a meme indicates that the world has been observing arfcom. E.g., Chuck Norris, All Your Base, etc. And they all love to eat PIE! 87!!!

Many members seem to think that 'raiding' other websites is productive and/or relevant at all. See also: groundless fears related to hotlinking.

While the purported reason for having a user controlled encyclopedia is to allow for the constantly evolving nature of information, activists seek to delete information (regardless of it's source or authenticity) in an attempt to further their cause. This is not uncommon, nor is it surprising. For example, in many cases, candid photographs of anti-gun politicians (which more accurately portray what they might look like if encountered in person) are often removed and replaced with retouched photographs, to make these people look less frightening.

^ Hey, I'm just going to make a suggestion here. I don't care for the wikipedia edit geeks, I'm not a "wikian", but if you want to make an Arfcom entry and KEEP it, you'll have to actually keep it on topic. Persecution type complex whining such as the above doesn't help. It looks like a lot of big words used to try to justify editing articles for people like Hitlery with weird photos where her mouth is open and whatnot. Regardless of how funny those are in General Discussion, or how socialist she is, the pictures used should be the same as would be used in a major newspaper.

If every swinging dick that faps with breakfree to white trash 80's hair chicks shooting Title 2 Ingrams comes and edits each line to end with 'OMG PIE 87 OLOLOL', it's just going to sign the death knell of Arfcom ever being on here that much harder.

Just giving you guys some advice here.

HERE IS HOW TO GET ARFCOM HERE TO STAY:

View the entry for SomethingAwful.

Observe that it does not contain a dozen little creatively edited in-jokes, but is actually an informative and interesting entry that DEMONSTRATES RELEVANCE.

Arfcom is as big as SA, you can do it.
