AVENDED, the Association of Venezuelans in
Defense of Democracy, is a non-profit civil association, founded on
November 10,
2003 by a group of Venezuelans
living in the city of Edmonton, AlbertaCanada.
Our mission is to contribute to promote
and strengthen the democracy in Venezuela.
Democracy depends on a Legislative
power with legitimate representative that can understand the needs
of the people and supervise the executive power. An independent
Judicial power that renders justice and is the guarantorr of
legality, and the proper application of the law. An electoral power
that promotes the development of honest and responsible political
parties, and that guaranties the realization of transparent
electoral processes, where the people can express freely their
opinion with the confidence that the decision of the majority will
be respected.
Democracy in its simplest concept establishes
that the sovereignty lays in the people. Our Association recognizes
that such power comes along with a tremendous responsibility, in
which a prepared and active society constitute the fundamental
bases of the democratic pillars. Hence, AVENDED is committed to
deepen the democratic concepts and values among its members, in
order to take solid actions oriented to defend and strengthen the
democracy in Venezuela, always within the constitutional frame and
by peaceful means.
