A Species in Denial is the title of a book by Jeremy Griffith. The title encapsulates the central propositions in the book - that humans are in "denial" about their human condition (in the book, the meaning of this term focuses on the distressing truth of their capacity for both good and evil).

The author proposes a radical new biological explanation for the human condition: that their anger, egocentricity and alienation arise from the conflict between their instinct and their intellect. The book argues that this explanation has only recently been possible due to the findings of science and that the explanation resolves the conflict of the human condition and can lead to a radical new freedom.

The hypothesis remains to be tested scientifically. However, the hypothesis is so wide reaching ("holistic") that it has aroused some intense opposition.
