Aaron Michael Farrugia (born January 1, 1980) is a Maltese Labour Party politician. He is the Chairperson of Fondazzjoni IDEAT, Malta`s progressive think-tank

Farrugia studied at the University of Malta, and graduated in November 2002 with an Honours Degree in Commerce and Finance (thesis title Foreign Direct Investment in Malta – A Review of Measures of Attraction and Problems in Implementation). He then studied European Economics, Law and Politics at the European Documentation and Research Centre (University of Malta) and graduated with a Masters Degree in December 2005. The title of his thesis is Welfare Policy Reforms in Contemporary Europe: The Ideological Shift in the European Social Democrat Parties. In November 2010, Aaron Farrugia was awarded a Bachelor of Laws (L.L.B.) from the Faculty of Laws (University of Malta).
Aaron Farrugia is the Chairperson of Fondazzjoni IDEAT and member of the Central Administration and National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Partit Laburista.
Farrugia joined the local Labour party committee at the age of 16. He served as Deputy Mayor of the Ta` Xbiex Local Council between 2005 and 2008 and served in the Labour Party (Partit Laburista) as Vice President in 2001 and later on President of Young Labour ([Forum Zghazagh Laburisti]) between 2002-2004 and 2006-2008. He was elected Education Secretary of the party in August 2008. During his student days he was a member and Secretary General of Pulse, a social democrat student organisation between 1998 and 2001 and a Member of the Malta National Youth Council between 2004 and 2005.
In 2003 he was nominated to a working group on the Labour Party's policies on the European Union. This working group produced the document Il-Partit Laburista u l-Unjoni Ewropea: Għall-Ġid tal-Maltin u l-Għawdxin ('The Labour Party and the European Union for the benefit of the Maltese') which was adopted by the Labour Party Extraordinary General Conference in November of that year.
Farrugia was also appointed as one of the economic experts of the Young European Socialists (ECOSY) in January 2009. He writes various articles on a regular basis for local newspapers and political magazines.
On the 11th of June 2010, Aaron Farrugia was given "Ġieħ Ta` Xbiex", the local Order of Merit, an honour conferred to those who demonstrated “exceptional merit in the service of the town of Ta` Xbiex”. Ġieħ Ta Xbiex is a public tribute to those who distinguish themselves and whose achievements enrich the well-being of the city.
Aaron Farrugia is married to Charmaine Farrugia (nee Micallef), whom he wed in July 2010. Farrugia is a Roman Catholic.
