Jiney, an award winning art and photography student, being influenced by the works of Joel Peter Witkin, takes a photograph of a dying victim at a car accident (see also Leave Me Alone), and becomes obsessed with death. Jiney is also stalked by a classmate, Anson. Her girlfriend, Jas, is concerned about Jiney's obsession, and helps Jiney face her troubled past, in which she was sexually abused by her cousin as a child. Jiney then receives a snuff tape, and finds herself stalked by a serial killer.
Ab-normal Beauty was followed by a companion film, Leave Me Alone, directed by Danny Pang, which stems from the same fatal car crash. It stars Ekin Cheng in a dual role as the driver in the car crash and as the man's twin brother, and Charlene Choi.
Ab-normal Beauty has screened at several film festivals, including the Asian American International Film Festival in New York City, the Gérardmer Fantasticarts Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Film, Titanic International Filmpresence Festival, München Fantasy Filmfest, Lund International Fantastic Film Festival and the Cinemanila Film Festival.
It was released on DVD by Tartan Films on December 26, 2005.
