Abacast has a patented hybrid
peer-to-peer audio and
video
streaming
technology system developed in the early
2000s. The grid technology can be used for either live
or on-demand streaming. It is maintained by Abacast Inc. as a
paid-use system, with a variety of additional services for
supporting "ad injection" and
digital rights management. It is
primarily deployed with
Windows Media streams, but also supports
Shoutcast. The
Abacast technology helps users save up to 98 percent on bandwidth
expenses. The technology is the cornerstone of the full service
offering which includes live and on-demand audio and video
streaming, ad injection, digital rights management, iptv,
subscription systems, complete user stats, custom web and player
design, automatic pager alert systems podcasting, encoding and
custom solutions.
The Abacast patented technology takes the
security, quality, and control from central server (unicast)
streaming technology and combines it with the adaptability,
efficiency, and resilience of peer-to-peer technology. This
combination of technologies into one Distributed Streaming
Technology reduces the cost of live one-to-many audio and video
streaming by up to 98%. Also, it includes qualiity of service
monitoring which gives measurable improvement in the end-user
