Abridgement in anime is a form of fan parody that uses clips, characters and the general plot of a chosen anime to create a short series. These series usually consist of many episodes based on the original story, but with redubbed voices. These are predominantly created by North American fans, and tend to have North American humor in them (however
LittleKuriboh, considered the maximum exponent and/or creator of the "art" is British).

The Abridged Series

A number of parodies have been created where only selected scenes in a single episode are kept, leaving around six minutes for each episode. Dialogue is then dubbed over with the creator's own scripted parody, most of which involves pop-culture references and endless (light-hearted) self-mockery. They are usually named "(Series Title): The Abridged Series". This style was first used by the Youtube user LittleKuriboh, who developed the abridged Yu-Gi-Oh! series and then continued, such as by the users Vegeta8639 and Masakoxtreme who created Naruto: The Abridged series. Out of all the series which have spawned on the net, the Yu-Gi-Oh and to a lesser extent Naruto abridged series are the ones which are considered by many to be the most popular.

After two months, new abridgers came, starting with Naruto Abridged. Though multiple Naruto abridged series have been made, the one widely accepted by viewers is the one by vegeta8639 and masakoxtreme because they received Little Kuriboh's "blessing"; a cameo appearance in the first episode. The same applies for Canadianjutsu's version of the Naruto Shippuden abridged series, as Masako in turn made a cameo appearance in Canadianjutsu's first episode, though some fans remain "purists" to Vegeta and Masako.

Eventually came team projects. It started with Neighborhood Cluck Productions, which consists of: Lanipator, Masakoxtreme, Vegeta8639, and ITouchedYusuke. Currently they are working on a third Dragon Ball Z movie. The next team was a mix between the "Second Generation Abridgers," which consisted of Borinyukami, IDLITstudios, Khenpoe, and Zeromaster. They gave themselves a humorous name: The Council of Boosh and Goodies. Also included in the "Second generation" but are not apart of The council of Boosh and Goodies are Kaiserneko, TeamDattebayo, Skins2135, FMAxAbridgedxTeam, and SamuraiKH2.

The guru of video making and directing, Simple Bag of Chips is rumored to be in the process of making a soon to be legendary abridged series, one that will change abridging forever.
