accessplace.com is a two part resource
containing a website directory which is a collection of hand
selected websites as well as a UK business database.
Early
history
accessplace.com first appeared in 1999 as a collection
of individually selected websites that the author considered to be
the "best of the web". The collection was added to over the years
to finally reach more than 2000 websites spanning 200 plus topics
divided between 19 primary categories.
accessplace.com
today
Today, accessplace.com uniquely combines this directory of
editor’s choice websites with a locally organised and
professionally vetted UK business database.
Website
directory
The manually edited directory of websites spans both
popular and niche subjects, directing users to the best the web has
to offer on a wide variety of subjects. The websites listed are
primarily from the United States although UK, Australian, Canadian
and other English language websites are also
represented.
Business database
The business database
provides easy access to local businesses, service providers,
retailers, charities, clubs and organisations throughout the UK.
Divided into just over 200 categories, the entries are organized by
region and then by city or town. Each entry is displayed with full
contact details and colour maps.
The business database is
provided under license by
Thomson Directories. accessplace.com's
use of the database offers the user a different way of accessing
the information, however, by allowing the user to drill down by
category and then location. A search function is also provided
offering a "who, what, where" database search.
Getting
listed
Any UK business, charity, club or organization can apply
for a free listing in the database. All applications are vetted by
Thomson Directories. Applications for
listings in the website directory are open to any English language
site. These submissions undergo a strict review process by the
accessplace.com editorial team, with approval being reserved for
those considered to be the best resources on that topic.
