Kinglopos’ Bio
Alias: Kinglopo
Real Name:
Andrew Lopez
Age: 18
Birth Date: August 25, 1988.
He was
conceived on August 25,1988, at the Nuttal hospital in St. Andrew.
Being the son of a veteran actress and radio broadcaster he was
exploded to the creative arts from relatively young. His education
started at world of little people, then Mona preparatory then
Ardenne high and currently the University of Technology. In 6th
grade of Mona prep, his family relocated to Linstead St. Catherine
to which he still resides. His interest in rap started when he was
in the 6th grade, due to his peers interest and knowledge in that
genre. It was ironic that his mothers’ work with an all reggae
station had broadened his awareness of local music but his peers
frowned it upon. In effort to fit in he got his first rap album
Ma$e’s “Harlem World” and then move on to Jay-Z’s “Hard Knock Life”
and Puff Daddy and the Family’s “No way out”. His interest began to
grow and he soon became more interested in rap than local work. At
high school though this changed dramatically, his interest then
started to be in dancehall and the whole party vibe. By forth form
he became a part of a sound system with his friends who played at
party of friends and things of that sort. Even though his love for
dancehall was very strong his first attempt at writing was a rap
song, after listening to 50 Cent’s “Get Rich or Die Trying”. One of
the sound system member to which he was associated with had an
older brother who was getting involved in making dancehall rhythms
and advised Lopo to get away from the rapping and maybe change them
to dancehall (NB. The name Lopo was giving to him by a classmate in
forth form that was mocking his last name Lopez). He took this
advice and began writing dancehall lyrics. He was an admirer of
Vybz Kartel’s witty wordplay at the time and tried to think
creative ways of saying thing within to general theme of dancehall
songs (girls and guns, mostly girls though). His first song, which
the title may too explicit to state, was liked by his friends and
his acclaim motivated him to continue writing; especially when
there were a good amount of aspiring deejays around him at school.
After writing a couple more songs he then found difficulty finding
new ways of saying things under these similar themes and had a
writing slump. He then just stopped pursuing writing any music and
focused on passing his CXCs in fifth form; and it would have seemed
that he wouldn’t even write again.
After going through fifth
form, CXC’s and graduation, he decided he didn’t want to go to
sixth form but go to the Pre-University School and do his A-Levels
in 1 year. Many of his schoolmates had made the same move, some
that he knew well and others he didn’t. One of these associates was
a guy named Russell, now called MXY. They didn’t know each other
well but being in the same classes, interest and so forth helped
them grow into a solid friendship. At Pre-UWI however, Lopo met a
rapper, which to him was really good and it opened his mind to the
idea of Jamaicans being successful in rap but he still didn’t start
writing again. It was only when he heard Jadakiss’s song “Put your
hands up”, did he decide that he wanted to rap. To him, that song
was so entertaining to the mind because of the metaphors and
wordplay that he wanted to make that as well. He began writing
again and one day when his rapper friend was doing his thing,
people who knew he was rapping start chiting him to rap. He did…
and he sucked, but his rapper friend saw some potential in his
lyrics and gave him some pointers to how to flow properly and such.
As he began practicing his rap, his friend Russell began playing
with Fruity Loops 4 and had begun making beats. They would develop
and were drawn to work with each other and this is how they formed
their group, which is now called Acmatic.

MXY
Alias: MXY
----
Real Name: Russell Meghoo
Age:
18
Birth Date: September 21,1988
Born in Kingston Jamaica 1988,
Russell grew up with both parents and one sibling. During growing
up he was exposed to a lot of the music known as classics today due
to his parents love for music, which he later grew to appreciate in
his high school years at Ardenne High School. Due to Jamaica’s
heavy music related culture and his friends who all listen to
different types of music, he became exposed to many genres of
music, also coming to love them and appreciate the art of music.
Along with his love for visual art, he quickly became interested in
how music was made, reading up on music articles, in books
newspapers etc. A form of music that caught his attention the most
was hip hop, music with so much controversy and deep history that
he began listening to it straight from the root up. By the time he
left Ardenne, he started fiddling with music anyway he could,
programs, trying to play his friends instruments, even buying a
guitar which he plans to get lessons in very soon. After much
practice, he became very familiar with the FL Studio program, which
is often criticized for its uselessness, but he continued to use it
to the best of his ability. After a short while, a colleague he
went to school with since high school, Andrew Lopez AKA King Lopo,
became friends with Russell after high school was finished when
they both attended The Pre-University. Both with common interests
in music and Hip-hop in general both noticed each other’s abilities
in training, Russell being a beat maker and Andrew being a rapper.
Both in the beginning stages of these skills slowly developed them
to a point where they though they should take their abilities
seriously and put them to good use for 1, because of their
frustration with the current state of Hip hop, and 2, because its
something they love doing and they both believed they should be
doing what they love for a living. Soon the group MILITIA was
formed when they both rejoined at UTECH. Still in the development
stages, Russell began making beats based on the old school style of
making beats by sampling older music from the 60's, 70's and 80's.
This era in hip hop was the times he loved and believed hip hop was
made with quality back then, that which he is trying to emulate, of
course with his own twist. The name became ACMATIC, upon
recognition that there were so many acts in the world with the name
Militia that we didn’t want to be confused with them. So after lots
of debating and deliberation, we chose ACMATIC because of how
unique it was, so that people could only make the connection with
us.
ACMATIC TODAY
Today the group is developing,
working on songs, making foreign links and becoming apart of the
freshest new clique EVER. Now apart of the FRESH EMCEES, with
another group, Zombie DeLarge, and another emcee, Mesmer-eyes,
don’t be surprised to see ACMATIC as well as the Fresh Emcees, with
different ventures and expanding to different markets. We here to
show hip hop can be one of the greatest motivational tool, to
originality, creativity and upward movement.
