Adam Aleksander (born in 1968 in Canada) is considered one of the
most outstanding pianists of his country. Since launching his
international career at the early age of 14 performing Chopin’s
Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Edmonton Philharmonic Orchestra to a
sold-out concert hall, he has been appearing solo, in chamber music
ensembles and with orchestras around the world to rave reviews of
music critics and standing ovations from audiences. Critics have
hailed his playing as having “rare finesse…gorgeous sonority and
nimble fingers…generous of feeling, mood and tonal resources”
(Cleveland Plain Dealer); “(Aleksander) is a consummate
pianist…outstanding artist” (Miami Herald); having “phenomenal
technique, which allows him to achieve extremely musical ends”
(Byron Belt, Newshouse News Service); “(Aleksander) is one of the
great artists of the city and promises to become one of the
greatest pianists by the end of the century” (Daniel Fernandez, El
Nuevo Herald), “…exquisite…subtlety and grace…fire and
brimstone…rare depth and substance…introspective… exhilarating!”
(Pat Leitch, Coral Gables Gazette.)
In the exceptionally
competitive world of music, Adam Aleksander has garnered prizes
from countless international and national piano competitions,
foundations and organizations. Already as a child prodigy, between
the ages of 11 and 15 he won five first prizes in competitions
where he competed against adult pianists with emerging
international careers, and was a laureate of four other such
competitions. He was soon recognized as a unique talent and was
invited to make recordings for National Broadcast with Canada’s CBC
radio. At the age of 14 he was the youngest ever graduate of The
Western Board of Music (Associate Degree with High Honors) in
Edmonton, Canada. He also excelled in school, completing high
school grades 10-12 in one year (at the same time receiving the
Most Outstanding Student Award as well as the Sir James Lougheed
Award of Distinction) in order to begin studies at the prestigious
and exclusive Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Poland at the
early age of 16.
Soon after, Aleksander began his International
Piano Competition circuit, where he competed against the world’s
top young pianists for prizes and concerts. In 1985 he won First
Prize in the International Piano Competition “Le Muse” in Salerno,
Italy, where over 100 pianists participated. In 1986, he won second
prize in the famous “Maria Canals” International Piano Competition
in Barcelona, Spain, followed in 1987 with Third Prize in the
International Piano Competition “Milosz Magin” in Paris, France,
and fourth prize in the 1990 Palm Beach International Invitational
Piano Competition. The pianist also received top prizes in
competitions in Lawton, Oklahoma (The Louise D. McMahon
International Music Competition), Austin, Texas (American College
of Musicians International Piano Recording Competition) and First
Prizes in the Organization of American States International Piano
Competition (Miami) and the University of Miami Piano Concerto
Competition.
This lead to the pianist being invited to perform
in concert and recital all over the world: Japan, Canada, Poland,
Italy, Spain, France, Brazil, Ecuador, Scotland, the United States,
and in 2003, South Africa. Other awards from around the world have
been heaped upon Aleksander: The Distinguished Young Leadership
Award from The American Biographical Institute, The Certificate of
World Leadership from The International Biographical Centre in
Cambridge, England, induction into Pi Kappa Lambda Honorary Society
in the United States, inclusion in The International Directory of
Distinguished Leadership, an Honorary Diploma of Distinction,
Tokyo, Japan. The pianist was offered an honorary position as
Artistic Advisor to the Chopin Foundation of the United States in
the year 2002. He has performed in international festivals in
Tours, France, Orford, Quebec, Miami, Florida, Slupsk, Poland,
Interlochen, Michigan, Atami and Tokyo, Japan, Cleveland as well as
Antonin, Poland. The pianist has been invited to perform and give
masterclasses in several top US and Canadian Universities, as well
as in South America and Japan.
Besides countless recordings for
CBC Radio Canada and Television, Adam Aleksander has also recorded
for national Radio and Television in Poland and has recorded a CD
with violinist Jorge Saade on the Amine Label as well as a solo
piano CD on the Pro Piano (New York) label with worldwide
distribution. BBC Music Magazine (Great Britain) has reviewed this
CD: “… he is a masterly pianist…vibrant…sensitive and commanding…
an outstanding virtuoso.”
