Adam George Cochrane (1964 to 2002) or simply Adam G. was a famous entertainer and musician who came to prominence during the protest era of the 1960's and 70's.
In his later life he wrote poetry and gave seminars on his beliefs which covered political and social commentary. He was a heavy user of Marijuana and Psilocybin mushrooms. He passed away in 2002 from a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head.

Early Life

Cochrane was born to a World War II Navy veteran who had gone into politics, and was Major of the small town of Galt, California.
His mother was the primary source of comfort during his frustrating teenage years, as he found difficulty in relating to most students. In the early 1990’s he released fragments of his diaries during in which he distinguished classmates being either ‘true’ or ‘sellout’ but has never fully explained what he had meant.

Upon graduating High school he went to College to study journalism, and in the midst of the Vietnam War started protests and playing the guitar.
Although not gifted musically, his natural stage charisma drew large crowds. Riots often occurred, and Cochrane spent many nights in local jails, often scrambling lyrics across small pieces of paper and his own flesh.

It was here he was introduced to Marijuana and Psilocybin Mushrooms, which he continued to use until his death.
He called them a ‘means to expand his consciousness’ and recommend them to everyone, he had made a famous appearance in Los Angeles with Bob Dylan in 1978 in what is unanimously agreed to be in an intoxicated state, but he has denied it to this day.

1980’s

In 1982 he was caught driving without a license in San Francisco, with Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia in his glove compartment.
He was sent to a Rehabilitation clinic which he would later describe as ‘the most depressing place on earth’. He was quick to impress his rehabilitation officers, and after four months was back on the streets. When asked as to what he did immediately after, he answered to Rolling Stone magazine ‘I touched the face of God’

By this time he was writing poetry, and releasing coffee table books of art and sketches.
He gradually stopped the music aspect of his life. ‘There was nothing left to rage against, everything had been said, changing ‘Vietcong’ to ‘Mujahideen’ in a song doesn’t make a new song. You have to find the balance between artist and activist’. Instead he started doing spoken word tours, which encompassed comedy, satire and social commentary. He often included guest, including friend and infamous journalist Hunter S. Thompson, Terrence McKenna and Frank Zappa.

In 1989 Shelley Anne Cochrane was born, to longtime partner from college Peggy Anne Smith.
By this time Cochrane was heavily reliant on drugs once more, but had greatly reduced use upon the birth of his child.

1990’s

Cochrane went into obscurity throughout the 90’s, with very little releases all spread among the decade.
He and his family moved to Spain where they would raise their daughter, and their son Hunter Cochrane who was born in 1992.

In 1994 he released a one off single, ‘Goodbye Gorbachev’ concerning the collapse of the Soviet Union and resignation of leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
Cochrane himself was often accused of being a communist due to his left leaning political ideology.

By 1998 he was out of the media spotlight completely, except for a brief appearance on British television to discuss prolonged drug use and its effects.

Death

In 2002 after taking a heavy dose of Psilocybin mushrooms, Cochrane took his 12 gauge shotgun which was bought illegally and shot himself in the mouth – completely shattering his synapse.
He died almost immediately, and had a suicide note in his hand, but his wife has refused to read it publicly. He was a mere 48 years old.

Quotes

They want you off drugs, but they send to a place where all you do is pray you find 5 ounces of Pot under your pillow at night’ 1982 after being released from a rehabilitation clinic.

‘If someone told me he could tell me the meaning of the universe for a dollar, I’d rather keep the dollar.
It must not be that big a deal for a single dollar. Besides, you can make your own up with a friends ‘burrowed’ Psilocybin mushroom’ Spoken word tour 1986.

American involvement in Vietnam is like sending a group of High school kids to stop a fight breaking out in a pre-school’ 1967 Protests

‘Having children is like cocaine – the moments of bliss are shrouded by hours of pure agony having to sit through Disney on Ice for the third year in a row’ 1991 in Juice magazine.

‘Bob Dylan has lost his edge, he couldn’t sing before but now it just sounds like his reading straight from the Torah’ Infamous LA appearance.
