Born in 1824, Adam Grainger (a.k.a. King of The Sausages) is known as the man who invented the famous "Powters" Newmarket sausage. He has been adopted by Newmarket Town Football club as mascot because it is reputed that his huge red face and chubby smile made children laugh wherever he went. Also known for his famous phrase, uttered at the moment he finally perfected his recipe, "hooray for sausage!". The cause of his red face is often attributed to his refusal to eat even the smallest morsal without tomato ketchup.

He was also an incredibly gifted butcher and known for his unusual butchery techniques. He would occasinally put a small piece of his buttock into his secret sausage recipe. However, the overall size of his rear end never decreased due to his exceptional love of food.

A founding member of Newmarket and somewhat of a local legend.
