Adam Hinkley, an Australian programmer, known among Hotline users as "Hinks," who, at the age of 17, developed the Mac OS's multi-application, peer-to-peer communication software suite Hotline Connect, informally called, simply, Hotline in 1996.

Some people believe that Hinkley currently goes by the name "spl", and is the creator of the software company Haxial, whose primary application is a Hotline Communications-style chat/server suite called KDX. Haxial has not responded to queries about whether Adam Hinkley owns or works for Haxial, neither denying nor confirming the rumor. Adam Hinkley has stated on one or two occasions that he is not involved in Haxial but likes some of their software. The rumor that Adam Hinkley works for Haxial probably serves as good marketing and PR for Haxial.

spl's personal page offers some rather bizarre and opinionated rants on various topics, from "Why Americans do not understand what Pepper is!" to "Lions are Murderers". More recently spl has extended and collated his writings on a new page called Vizaxia.

Interest in Adam Hinkley has been steadily declining because there has been no news regarding him (or no verifiable news) for a number of years.
