The Adam Mickiewicz Institute (Polish: Instytut Adama Mickiewicza)
is a government-sponsored organization funded by the Ministry of
Culture and National Heritage of Poland. Its goal is to promote Polish language
and Polish
culture abroad. It is based in Warsaw.[1] The
Institute operates a bilingual Polish-English portal called
"culture.pl" created in 2001.
The long list of its contributors, with poets, essayist,
professional artists, literary, music and film critics, curators,
as well as translators, include: Director Paweł Potoroczyn, Editor-in-chief Elżbieta Sawicka, and the
editorial staff: Joanna Bębenkowska (music), Anna Kowalska
(literature), Paulina Kucharska (visual arts), Monika Rencławowicz
(film, theatre), and Marek Dusza (photos and multimedia).
There are similar Polish Cultural Institutes sponsored by the
Ministry in 20 major cities outside Poland including Berlin, Bratislava, Budapest, Bucharest, Düsseldorf, Kiev, Leipzig, London, Minsk, Moscow, New
York, Paris, Prague, Rome, Saint Petersburg, Sofia, Stockholm, Tel Aviv, Vienna, and Vilnius.[2]
