Adam Woeger (born
1965 in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is a
Christian
evangelist who is
known for being a Christian
Internet pioneer, and is considered to be one of
the earliest people to use the Internet as an
evangelism tool. He is also
known for being a Christian
author,
archivist and
songwriter.
Woeger became interested in
computers in about
1976, when he was introduced
to
teletype
time-sharing
terminals and
keypunch
machines at school. He
spent most of his free time learning to use computers. His love for
computers got him noticed by the
principal of his
high school, Northeast Preparatory School, who
offered him an assistant teaching position at the school teaching a
computer class when he was only 16 years old. Woeger was at the
time listed as both a student and teacher in his high school
yearbook. After graduating and receiving several fully paid
scholarship
offers, including one to
Temple University and also a
Navy ROTC scholarship, Woeger accepted the latter and went
off to
Texas.
Woeger
attended
Texas A&M University
and studied toward a
Computer Science engineering degree between
1982 and
1987. He worked as a computer programmer
developing
IBM 3270
emulation
PC software at IBM in
Austin, Texas in a
co-operative
internship program in
1984 and
1985. He
later discovered a "calling" into the
ministry, and
then combined his computer skills with his calling into the
ministry right about the time the Internet became available to the
general public (around
1994).
He was fascinated with the idea of using the Internet to spread the
gospel.
In
1995, he
authored and compiled the first major
Christian shareware library available on the Internet known
under the names "Bethany Bible Collection" and "BibleWare". His
Christian software collections have been distributed on numerous
CD-ROMs and via large file
download Internet sites for many years. According to Woeger, tens
of thousands of Christian software programs and electronic Bibles
were delivered daily via the Internet, with the total number
reaching into the millions given away to people all over the
world.
The next phase of Woeger's ministry started around
1999 when he began archiving
and editing many classic Christian books, audios and texts from
well-known Christian authors of the past few centuries and
releasing them into the
public domain so they would be preserved in
digital form for future generations to enjoy. Woeger has run
numerous web sites over the years where he distributed free
Christian books, Bibles and other resources. He was the originator
of the phrase
Christian Public Domain, which
refers to the idea of individual Christians and those in ministry
releasing a portion of their created works (such as books, music
and sermons) to the public domain so people can be blessed for
future generations and use the material free of charge. Woeger's
idea is based on the passing forward of help to others who are
mostly strangers, as seen in the popular movie
Pay It Forward.
Woeger's method differs in that it relates to leaving behind a
legacy of quality Christian materials that will be a blessing to
others using the public domain as the vehicle.
Woeger legally
changed his birth name of
Robert Adam Woeger to
Adam Woeger in
January 2000 stating that he preferred to use
his middle name over his birth first name. On
January 1,
2000, Woeger started holding weekly healing
services at a local church. These healing services continued for 2
1/2 years, and helped people "enter into the Presence of God"
according to Woeger. He also spent several years archiving and
restoring many audio tapes of
Kathryn Kuhlman, an early healing
evangelist, which along with the Kathryn Kuhlman web site and
related domain names were eventually turned over to the Kathryn
Kuhlman Foundation after the death of Woeger's mentor in
2002.
In 2002, Woeger
placed his Internet ministry sites and weekly healing services on
hold, to concentrate on, as he puts it, "seeking God for a new
direction in his life". His mentor of several years had just died,
and he was led to change the direction of his ministry. After
almost 2 years of "spending quiet time learning from God", Woeger
launched back into revitalized Internet ministry. He now
distributes free Christian worship music and hymns, plus free
Christian books, Bibles and resources over the Internet through his
Seek Him outreach.
In
August 2004,
Woeger earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from
Patriot
Bible University in the field of Biblical Studies.
Woeger is
known as an
Internet Evangelist, and combines his
computer and technology skills with ministry. He has a heart for
the healing evangelist ministry, and wants to see people increase
their faith in God and be healed. He believes part of his ministry
is to help people enter into the presence of
God. Woeger has co-written many songs, many of
which he has released to the public domain so people can be blessed
by them. He is known for his collection of over 100 songs, most of
which are instrumental hymns, which he distributes via various
sources.
His personal outreach ministry is based in
Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Woeger runs a 24 hour a day Internet Radio station, various web
sites, distributes music and also ministers in person at various
meetings and churches. Woeger is also a prolific writer. He appears
on Christian TV on occasion, but his preference is to use
technology such as the Internet for doing the work of the
ministry.
One of Woeger's most famous quotes is, "I am
nothing... He is everything".
