In the
Star Wars
Expanded Universe,
Adar Tallon was a military instructor and
commander for the
Galactic Republic,
Rebel Alliance and
New Republic.
Admiral Tallon was a brilliant
tactician who fought during the
Clone
Wars alongside the
Jedi
and the forces of
Alderaan. A veteran soldier, it was Tallon who
spoke to many new recruits about the brutal realities of war. His
starship tactics, such as those at the
Battle of
Balamak, had a heavy influence, earning him the post-period
title of "The Father of the Old Republic Navy" and lending his name
to tactics like the
Tallon Roll and the
Tallon Split.
As the Republic began to
transition towards
Empire, and enemies of the New
Order vanished, Tallon became disillusioned with the direction the
galaxy was taking. Calling
in a favor from an old associate, a
pirate named
Quist, Tallon faked his own death. While he retired to
Tatooine, the rest of
the galaxy believed that he had died saving a medium freighter from
pirates in the
Dalchon system. On Tatooine, Adar Tallon and
the crew of his patrol craft,
Battalion, took on new identities, and stayed
out of sight for several years. Tallon himself moved to
Fort Tusken with
his wife, Kay.
In 0
BBY, when
stormtrooper landed on Tatooine to
search for
C-3PO and
R2-D2, Tallon realized he
could not hide from the Empire forever. He began to plan his
return, making contact with his old crew, including Quist and the
mercenaries
Shrike and
Jungen. At the same time,
Captain Parlan of the
Imperial Star Destroyer Relentless
discovered that Tallon was still alive. Parlan sent several
bounty
hunters, including
Jodo Kast and
IG-72, to Tatooine to kill or capture Tallon. Luckily,
a small group of Rebels also learned that Tallon was still alive,
and managed to help him escape. With his peaceful exile ended,
Tallon joined the Rebel Alliance.
In his service to the
Alliance, Tallon taught space combat tactics to
starfighter pilots, tutored
starship commanders in
capital ship maneuvers and commanded several
strike groups. Tallon's starship combat maneuvers proved to work
best with Dodonna's military strategies, often besting the most
advanced Imperial commanders and allowing the inferior numbers of
the Alliance to triumph time and time again.
After the formation
of the New Republic, Tallon joined his old friend General
Jan
Dodonna's "Gray Cadre", together with
Vanden Willard and
Pashna
Starkiller. As part of this body, he continued to advise the
New Republic on military policy, especially during the reappearance
of
Emperor
Palpatine.
