The iconic 1950's "Adelphi" sign at Adelphi Shopping Center,
Adelphi, Maryland.
The
Adelphi Shopping Center, is located in the
2500-2600 block of University Boulevard E.,
Adelphi,
Maryland. It is home to the longest continuously operating
location of
Jumbo Food Store /
Shoppers Food Warehouse and the
original
Ledo Restaurant. The center, constructed by
Brill and Peck Co., cost $750,000 and opened on August 20, 1953
with four storefronts that contained a drug store, delicatessen,
hardware, and dry cleaners.<ref> </ref> In 1955, the
original "Ledo's," a favorite traditional spot for pizza catering
to
University of Maryland sports fans
and brought to national prominence by
The Oprah
Winfrey Show, opened.<ref> </ref><ref>

Jumbo Food Store was
added to the center in 1958. The center is currently managed by
Alvin Peck Company, Inc.
