Adoptables are images which are made and displayed by a certain person on their website, or the signature on a message board. They are often cartoon-styled pictures of creatures, real or mythical.

Types of Creatures

There are numerous creatures up for adoption all across the web. It is impossible to know all of the different creatures, because there are far too many. There are types of creatures whose names have never been seen except on the websites.

Fantasy

The Fantasy creatures are the most numerous type of creature available for adoption. They have everything, from the most well-known creatures loved by every child, to the strangest species never heard of before.

Pegasus

Pegasus is one of the many fantasy creatures found on the web. Almost any fantasy adoptable page will have pegasi, and there are plenty of pegasi only websites as well. Not only are there many websites, though. There are also thousands of variations of pegasi up for adoption.

Usual

There are the usual pegasi, of course. These graceful horses are tall and have long, thing legs and long feathery wings. These are naturally the most commonly found type. They also come in thousands of colors, from the natural white, pink, blue, all the way to black.

Demon

Wherever there is a graceful, angelic character, there has to be a demonic version to create a certain balance. Pegasi adoptables are no different. Another form of adoptable pegasus is the devil-winged creature. They are strong, often draft horses. They usually bare one of two expressions: a lonely, sad-eyed expression, or a mischievous, devilish expression. They have leathery bat wings to go along with the demon motif. They are usually either black or red.

Halloween

Any creature which exists must have a Halloween version for the beloved holiday. The pegasi adoptables go right along with that. These pegasi are often normal looking with unusual colorings. One example is a black pegasus with fire colored mane and tail.

Pony

Pegasi can come in miniature versions. These are pegasi ponies. They are the usual pegasus, but smaller, and often cuter. They may have baby features, or look like a chibi version.

Foals

Naturally, if there are adult pegasi up for adoption, there must be foals too. And there are. There are foals of any type imaginable.

Unicorn

Unicorns are another species of fantastic creature that exist everywhere on the web in every form imaginable.

Usual

The usual unicorns are normally just gracefully, long-legged, long-maned and -tailed horses, in any color, with a long horn twisting out of it's forehead. The horn can come in many different forms, though. These include spirled, smooth, long, short, even curved.

Pony

Again, there are pony unicorns as well. These are, like the pegasi, simply chibi unicorns.

Moons

Wow, you may say. But yes, there are moons up for adoption. Though rare, they do exist. The only site I have found so far offers four moons.

=Full Moons

On the site, there are two full moons up for adoption.

Luna

Luna is the first of the two moons. She is pale, with soft blue eyes and big, pale pink lips.

Beamer

Beamer is the male full moon. He is gray with a playful smirk, and seems to have a blanket of stars behind him.

Half Moons

There are also two half or crescant moons.

Celeste

Celeste is white, and has a sparkling star in her crescant.

Manny

Manny has more personality. He is pale blue and has a yellow star attached to him by a string. He spends all his time staring at the star.

Depending on how the creator wants their artwork displayed, they may create a form which must be filled out, or just allow you to save the image to your computer and upload it to your website.
There are also websites which give a list of many different popular adoptable sites, and webrings.
