Clone troopers of the Army of the Republic
Class: Infantry
Species: Human (cloned from the Mandalorian bounty hunter, Jango Fett)
Type: Front-line soldiers but they still have no life. By order of the Jedi Order
Affiliation: Galactic Republic
Standard weapon: DC-15 blaster rifle

The clone troopers of the Army of the Republic are soldiers in the fictional Star Wars universe, cloned from Jango Fett, a Mandalorian bounty hunter. They first appeared in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, and returned in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith where they were played primarily by Temuera Morrison. In the two TV shows, they are voiced by Andre Sogliuzzo and Dee Bradley Baker. In these movies, clone troopers comprised the bulk of the Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. They are depicted as the main part of the armed forces of the Galactic Republic in its final years, becoming one of the largest armies ever assembled, only surpassed by the Separatist Droid Army. After the Clone Wars, they served as the nucleus for the armed forces of the Galactic Empire, eventually becoming the Imperial Stormtroopers. They used blaster rifles and z6 chain guns.

History

In Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, it was revealed that the genetic template of the clone troopers was Jango Fett, one of the most feared bounty hunters of the Galaxy. In exchange for huge payment and an unaltered clone "son", Boba Fett[1], Jango provided his genetic material and Mandalorian battle training to the cloners of Kamino. The clone troopers were outfitted with armor styled after Mandalorian battle armor (notably the helmet and its T-shaped visor) and armed with weapons and vehicles produced in secret by Kuat Drive Yards, Rendili Stardrive, and Sienar Fleet Systems.

The Battle of Geonosis marked the first deployment of the clone troopers as well as the beginning of the Clone Wars. After Geonosis, clone trooper armies were led by Jedi generals, who were in turn accompanied by Clone Commanders. The clone troopers eventually carried out Order 66 at the behest of Chancellor Palpatine, turning the clones against their Jedi generals. This marked the end of the Clone Wars, as well as the death of the Old Republic. After the war and the birth of the Galactic Empire, the clone trooper army was reorganised into the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps.[2]

According to Star Wars Battlefront II, the surviving clone troopers were fitted with new armor and weapons, and became the Imperial Stormtrooper corps of the Empire. Because of their susceptibility to manipulation by the Kaminoans (who led a revolt against the Empire), Jango Fett clones throughout the force were slowly replaced by clone recruits derived from a variety of hosts. One of the few stormtrooper legions to remain "pure" (completely composed of Fett clones) throughout the era of the Empire was the 501st Legion, which was named in honor of a real-world fan group called the 501st Legion.

Specialized clone troopers

Within the film series and in the Star Wars Expanded Universe media, a number of specialized trooper units are seen, including elite special forces units such as the Advanced Reconnaissance Commandos (ARC troopers),and Null ARCs[3], who usually work alone, and Republic Commandos, who operate in squads of four, with each member a specialist of some kind, created for the video game Star Wars: Republic Commando and reappearing in the "Star Wars Republic Commando" series novels by Karen Traviss. Another example is the aquatic SCUBA troopers, who appear the animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars. Notable units in the novels are Delta Squad and Omega Squad. [4] [5]

Clone trooper armor

No physical clone trooper costume was produced for their first onscreen appearance. As revealed in the audio commentary of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, every single clone trooper in the film is a computer generated image. In fact, the only thing present on the set was the actor, whose head was used during scenes requiring a clone's face. In Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the armor is redesigned, but remains computer generated. Within the fictional history of the Star Wars universe, this is the basis of the Imperial Stormtrooper armor worn in episodes III-VI, known as "phase II" armor.

ARC troopers are fictional soldiers from the Star Wars saga who saw action during the Clone Wars era.

ARC Troopers - more formally known as Advanced Recon Commando - are elite special forces of clone troopers under the Grand Army of the Republic. At the behest of their military advisors and the prime clone (Jango Fett), the creators of the Clone Army of The Republic came to view their basic infantry clone troopers as only the first stage of a greater project. To combat the first stage army's shortcomings in dealing with more covert and delicate missions, two additional batches of clones were created. Both were genetically altered to grow as fast as all their brothers but one set was developed without behavior correction. They began life on Kamino like any of their brothers, receiving their training through flash data, but as time passed the future ARC Troopers found themselves under the direct tutelage of Jango Fett. Under Jango's strict discipline they learned to use their fierce independence, innate creativity, and physical superiorty beyond the limits that Jango had set. At the end of their training, due in large part to the Clone Masters' growing fear of their defiant nature, the ARC troopers were held in stasis on Kamino. Only when the cloning facilities themselves became threatened by the Confederacy of Independent Systems were they activated. During the Battle of Kamino, the ARC troopers were reintegrated into the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). As the ARCs took their place in the larger world, a great number developed distinct personalities due to their unaltered nature, some giving themselves names and others establishing relationships outside the GAR. A clone commando once called them "pretty well raw Jango".

Known Actions

Throughout the war, nearly all of the missions undertaken by ARC squads were huge successes.

Alpha (A-17)

During the defense of the major cloning facilities on Tipoca City - Kamino, Alpha was the lone survivor to oversee the final victory over the Confederate ground forces. When the Gungan moon colony of Ohma Dun was attacked, Alpha accompanied a Jedi Strike team sent to subdue a CIS Bio-Chemical weapon test and a trap set by the Bounty Hunter Durge and Confederate Commander Asajj Ventress. A-17 was also present during the opening conflicts of the Battle of Jabiim wherein he was captured along with General Obi-Wan Kenobi and was brought to the planet Rattatak. Both broke free from their captors and fled to the city of Riflor wherein they were rescued by Commander Anakin Skywalker. Due to his amassed experiences in almost any combat situation and service to the Jedi generals, Alpha was reassigned to conduct the Clone Commander Program. Later he is reassigned to Bail Organa's obervation team and rescues Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anikin Skywalker from a swarm of vulture droids. They launch an invaision on Boz Pity but Alpha is stabbed through with one of General Greivous' lightsabers. If his spine was damaged he is paralized but no one knows exactly what happened to Alpha after this.

Captain Fordo

The instrumental sabotage of Muunilinst's defense artillery and successful capture of the Intergalactic Banking Clan's leaders is credited to Captain Fordo and his fellow ARC Troopers. Captain Fordo and his team are also known for their rescue of Jedi Combatants from the doomed strike force that went against General Grevious in the Battle of Hypori. He was promoted to commander and was present leading clone troops into battle on Corescaunt.

Ordinance

Most ARC troopers were armed with heavy blaster rifles, Reverse-Polarity Pulse Grenades and, on occasion, PLX-1 missile launchers. Also they were given discretion over a galaxywide of choices on weapons. They wore advanced versions of clone trooper armour with ceremonial kamas that provided rank and honor insignia, and frequently cutsomized their armor with additional pieces or specialized paintjobs. This tradition continued later in the Clone Wars, when many former ARCs became legion commanders, and their troops followed their creative leads.

ARC troopers first appeared in the Republic comic series (specifically, Republic #50, the Defence of Kamino), and took center-stage in chapters 2 and 3 of the animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars.

Ranks

This particular captain is Captain Fordo.

The ARC trooper Captains were specialized Clone troopers assigned with leading squads of ARC troopers from Star Wars. They were the most skilled and feared branch of the Grand Army of the Republic. They were even fewer in the limited ranks of ARC troopers. Their armour was similar to their subordinates and the only difference was the red colouring on their facemasks and upper armour. Since most ARC trooper squads were small and often consisted of around 10 members, some of which were standard infantry clones, the ARC trooper captains often focused on infiltration, sabotage and surprise attacks. Captain Fordo, from The Clone Wars is seen wielding two blaster pistols and an electric taser-type weapon. During the Battle of Muunilinst, Captain Fordo's squad, the Muunilinst 10, was responsible for bringing down the defences of Muunilinst and bringing San Hill, the leader of the Intergalactic Banking Clan to justice (albeit temporarily). He destroyed an AAT when he jumped inside the tank and shot several holes through it and destroyed it. He led the ARC troopers to the massive CIS turret on Muunilinst. Later Captain Fordo rescued Ki-Adi Mundi, Aayla Secura, and Shaak Ti from General Grievous

ARC Commander

ARC Commanders were the highest rank in the clone army. They acted as Lieutenant Generals under the Jedi High Council. They proved a huge asset on Outer Rim worlds and on Coruscant.
