The Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) is an organization
that aims to promote the air barrier industry in the United States.
Membership includes manufacturers and distributors of air barrier
materials, design professionals, and contractors.
The
Association uses the Air Barrier Quality Assurance Program (QAP)
which was developed in order to provide architects with a way to
ensure that the installers of their air barriers are sufficiently
trained and experienced. Air barriers have been adopted into state
building codes in Massachusetts, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Because
of this, many projects that have been specified ABAA are located in
these states and in Massachusetts in particular. In fact, when the
Association was first incorporated in 2001, it was in the state of
Massachusetts.
ABAA also aims to expand the use of air barriers
in the US through marketing intiatives such as exhibiting at trade
shows, advertising in relevant publications, and delivering
presentations to architectural firms. ABAA projects are now being
specified in almost all regions of the country.
