Akkan Suver (born August 18, 1942 in Istanbul, Turkey) is President of the Marmara Group Strategic and Social Research Foundation.

He graduated from the journalism faculty of the University of Istanbul, and subsequently started a career as a journalist. He also has a Ph.D. International Relations from the University of Baku.

He started his journalistic career with the daily “Son saat”; was later appointed as Assistant Editor of “Dünya”.He served as the Chief Editor of “La Gazette,” an Istanbul daily published in French. He has been columnist with Istanbul dailies: Güneş, Hergün, Orta Doğu, Tercüman, Türkiye and Dünya.

He has been the Spokesman of the MHP between 1987 and 1995. Then he approved as the Assistant Secretary General of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). In 1997, he withdrew from his position and his political career on his own decision.

He was the Vice-President of the Turkish Boxing Federation and Member of the Scientific Committee of the World Boxing Association between 1990 and 2000.

In 1997, He has become the President of the Marmara Foundation.

As an activity of intercultural dialogue, for ten years he’s organized “Love and Peace Dinners” every year during Ramadan, with the participation of Greek, Armenian, Syriac Patriarchs, President of Religious Affairs Directorate of Turkish Republic, Turkish Grand Rabbi, Representatives of Vatican, Consul Generals and Ambassadors from many countries and other guests from Turkey and around the world. For his works of intercultural dialogue, he was received by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI in Vatican. Also, for his major contributions during the Pope’s visit, he received the “Memoriam Medal of Benedict XVI” in March 2007. For these efforts UNESCO made “Marmara Group Foundation” a member of “Intercultural Dialogue Commission”.

He is serving as the Member of Academic Council of the “Atatürk Center” in Azerbaijan. His books “Yellow Leaves Season” and “Living Atatürk” were published by this center in 2005 and 2006.

He received “The Medal of Progress”, the highest medal of Azerbaijan Government from Azerbaijan President İlham Aliyev, for the contributions he made to the “Turkish-Azerbaijani” relationships in 2006.

In 2006 August, he received the “Ghenghis Khan Medal” from Mongolia President Nambar Enkhbayar, for his efforts to carry Mongolia to the Eurasian Economic Summits.

He was elected as the Vice President of the “World Mongolian Assembly”, which is organized in Karakurum.

He is the Honorary Consul General of Montenegro in Istanbul, approved by the Government of the Republic of Montenegro on May 28, 2008.

He is the Vice-President and Founder Member of the “International Foundation for Cooperation and Partnership of the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea”, which was inaugurated on March 4, 2009, in Bucharest, Romania. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Romania Traian Băsescu are the Honorary Members of it.
