From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aku Pema (Tibetan: ཨཀུ་པེ་མ་Wylie: a-ku pe-ma) is a Tibetan song calling for the return of the Dalai Lama. Aku Pema is Tibetan for Uncle Lotus, which is a name for the Dalai Lama in Amdo, Tibet. The song was written by popular Tibetan artist Palgon from Amdo. The song is sung in Tibetan in the main Lhassa dialect. It is mainly considered to be calling for the Dalai Lama to return, but this is indirect. At no point during the song do the lyrics mention the Dalai Lama. The reference to the Dalai Lama is through a nickname Aku Pema. The song won the best lyrics award at the 2003 Tibetan Music Awards.[1]
