Alain Lambert (born in Alençon, on July 20, 1946) is a French politician. He is a notary by profession. He has been involved in politics since 1983 and has served as a local councillor in Alencon and a councillor on both the department council of Orne (1992-2002) and the regional council of Basse Normandie. Between May 7, 2002 and March 30, 2004 he was France's Minister of Budget. A 2009 attempt to be chosen to head the centre right wing UMP list for the 2010 regional elections was successful, with 54.49% of the party members' voters. However, he was forced to announce he would not stand due to disagreements within the party over his candidature.
