Aleksandra Ziółkowska Boehm (born 1949), Ph.D in humanities from Warsaw University, is a member of PEN American Center (New York), Fulbright Association (Washington, DC), SPP (Society of Polish Writers, Warsaw) and ZAIKS (Society of Artists, Warsaw), Kosciuszko Foundation (New York), Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America (New York), Union of Polish Writers Abroad (London). She resides in Wilmington, Delaware.
Her books include: Blisko Wankowicza (Near Wankowicz; she served as personal assistant to writer Melchior Wankowicz from 1972–1974, and on his death he willed her his archives), Moje i zasłyszane (Mine and Overheard Stories), Kanada, Kanada..., Dreams and Reality (ISBN 0-9691756-0-4),The Roots Are Polish (ISBN 0-920517-05-6), Amerykanie z wyboru (Americans by Choice), Ulica Żółwiego Strumienia (Turtle Creek Boulevard), Podróże z moją kotką (Travels with my Cat), Kaja od Radosława, czyli historia Hubalowego Krzyża (Kaia, the Protector of the Hubal Cross - in December 2007, awarded the best book for 2006 by the Union of Polish Writers Abroad, London), "Otwarta rana Ameryki" (America's Open Wound).
On September 2009 "Open Wounds - A Native American Heritage" was published by Nemsi Books, Pierpont, South Dakota (ISBN 978-0-9821427-5-2). The author provides a broad spectrum of Indian history, culture, traditions, subjugation, suffering, reservation poverty, failed government policies, education, emergence and the portent of a future of well-deserved dignity, respect and beginning signs of success. Personal interviews with members of the Apache, Chickasaw, Kiowa and Northern Cheyenne Nations add a potent insight into Indian feelings and opinions.
In May 2010 her non-fiction book abut travels with her cat is scheduled to be published by Purdue University Press under the title "On the Road with Suzy: From Cat to Companion" (ISBN 978-1-55753-554-2)
In 2002, she was awarded the Gold Lexicon by Ksiaznica Pomorska in Szczecin, and in 2006, she received the Delaware Division of the Arts’ award in the Literature-Creative Nonfiction discipline. Fulbright scholar at Warsaw University 2006-2007. She is married to Norman Boehm and has one son Thomas Tomczyk (publisher, managing editor and editorialist Bay Islands Voice).
